The MNTC has started to apprehend motorists violating the 100kph maximum speed limit on the closed-system portion of the NLEX.

They would apprehend the said motorist upon approaching the Bocaue tollplaza (going to Manila).

This cannot still be implemented in the open-system portion since there exits of the said portion doesn't have a toll gate.

How do they do this? There are imbedded and fixed speed traps along the stretch of the NLEX. Once you "trigger" the said traps, a camera (placed around 40 ft overhead) will take your license plate numbers.

Nice. I hope that they also implement the "leftmost lane for overtaking only" rule.

that would be good, since there are fellow motorists who love to hug the overtaking lane, as if they are the only traveler on the road.!

Been there done that, drive an FD at 200kph years back, huli then tutubusin mo sa lto e. ave. Sobra hassle, never again. Now 90kph ok na ako , cruising with spotify.

solution: drive at 200 kph so that all that will register in the camera would be a blur. bwahahahahaa (just kidding)

di naman... nasa open-system portion naman ako lagi (balintawak to bocaue). so medyo safe pa ako. hehe.

got that info from an officemate (who travels pampangga to manila daily).

btw, I've already memorized the locations of all speedtraps within the open-system. what I usually do is to slow down before the speed trap then accelerate again afterwards. the portion of the speedtrap has a horizontal tar strip across it. then there's the 40-ft camera tower (and even a power room) in the shoulder portion.

the 100kph speed limit is such a bore (especially on long drives). I agree with kulit, it should be around 120-140kph.

120-140 kph man lang sana. Mazdamazda, thanks for the warning.

boring nga 100kph, dapat taasan nila kahit na 120kph man lang.

so pag nahuli ka ano gagawin? multa? how much? if you get caught in more than 1 speed trap does that mean you pay more? or pareho din ang penalty?

dapat they should also penalize those that drive at less than 99kph para aat least kahit na 100kph lang takbo e wala ka na need mag-overtake!

    FINALLY!

before MNTC took over the operations of NLEX, i was always cruising at 150-160kph. since february, 100-110kph nalang ako because i thought implemented na agad ang speed limit. kating kati na kasi ang paa ko to step more on the accelerator because ang daming nagoovertake sa akin now that they're finally put their speed traps in place and in operation, mas mapipigilan na akong mag speeding

don't know if it's true, 2.5K daw ang penalty for overspeeding.

dapat nga at least 120kph.. at the same time yung mga less than 80kph na nasa fast lane na ayaw tumabi kahit anong pass light mo, makunan din ng camera(hehe). Kapag na-overtake-an mo sila galit pa.

Kung gusto nyo subukan POWER ng auto nyo at GALING nyo sa driving, NLEX and SLEX is not the right place, do it at the race track. Dami inusente madadamay lalo na mga kids , usually sleeping during the journey.

Ok lang sa akin ang 100KPH max as long as:

1.) Buses and trucks are all in 1 lane lang.
2.) Motorcycles are all in 1 lange lang.
4.) Enforced din ang minimum speed limit.

    just my two cents

It seems STAR TOLLWAY has acquired some speed guns.

Can anyone verify this piece of info and what kind of speed guns they are using? (radar or laser)

I found this piece of news... and it might be bad news for the common motorists because it seems they are using LASER speed guns.

    STAR Speed Limit Strictly Enforced
    Published: March 8, 2013

Speedsters driving on the 42-kilometer Southern Tagalog arterial road (STAR) expressway from Sto. Tomas to Batangas City have something to worry about as the Star Tollway Corp. (STC), operator of the said expressway, is now equipped with laser speed guns which make it easier to spot over-speeding vehicles.

The STC traffic safety team now apprehends drivers who violate the speed limit rule to ensure not only the safety of other motorists but also their own safety.

The STAR prescribed speed limits are similar to Skyway System and South Luzon Expressway: 60 KPH Minimum speed for all types or classes of vehicles; 80 KPH Maximum speed for trucks and buses; and 100 KPH Maximum speed for Class 1 vehicles (cars, jeeps, passenger vans).

Since January 2013, the STC traffic division has apprehended a total of 196 motorists for violating the speed limit rule.

According to STC, they will continue to intensify its speed limit rule enforcement as well as all other traffic safety rules and regulations for the safety and convenience of all motorists traversing STAR tollway.

Meanwhile, on STAR’s two-way traffic stretch from Lipa to Batangas City, motorists are advised to keep their headlights “On” at all times and not to overtake on the double-solid yellow lane. Since this stretch is an “immediate towing zone,” motorists are also reminded to make sure that their vehicles are roadworthy and well-maintained to prevent breakdown and avoid paying for towing services.

Motorists may call STC hotlines, 0908-8657827 and (043) 756-7870, to request for assistance, report unusual road incidents or make some suggestions.
