Here is a breath of fresh air for us looking for environmentally friendly ride.

The Alternative Fuel Vehicles Incentives Act (SB 2856) aims to encourage use of electric or hybrid cars in the country.

- Reduce the price of electric or hybrid cars by eliminating/lowering most taxes imposed on their manufacture (excise taxes and VAT).
- Encourage customers to buy them by the following:
- Libreng registration
- Walang 'coding' use your car all day of the week
- Free parking - this law mandates building owners to provide free parking to eco-friendly cars

Why? The Senate has already approved the bill.

And we also have the E-trike project.

It's not the oil companies that are the biggest hurdle to adopting EVs. It's the fact that they're so fricking expensive.

That hasn't changed much, and still won't change much. The cheapest electric-only vehicle that meets crash and highway safety standards on the market is the Nissan Leaf, which costs three times as much as the Versa it's based on.

Add local taxes to the price of the Leaf and it would cost 2.5 million pesos.

A tax exemption brings it down to 1.5 million pesos. I doubt oil companies will be losing sleep over millions of Filipinos paying 1.5m for a car that's smaller than the Almera.

at yung hindi agad nakikita rito eh yung environmental impacts ng pagmanufacture at pagrecycle ng hybrid cars....they may or may not be as polluting as combustion engines...

plus kelangan din smooth ang daan dito sa pinas para minimal vibration at tatagal ang batteries.
