    Hahaha. So true.

Pinoys are image-conscious to a fault. But this doesn't take anything away from the fact that the Altis is a solid car. Truly perfect for those who don't want to get into the nitty-gritty of buying one.

In today's continuing crisis, people can only need a car that will run trouble-free the longest. The Altis lives up to the roots of the Corolla, but this time, it shows its pride of being one.

Funny as it may seem... but I haven't seen an Altis owner comment on this thread... heck, does anyone here own the much hyped Altis?

Some problems that I've heard of in the casa are: early brake pad deterioration, shock absorber problems & oil leaks.

according to my hipag (to-be) unang pinalitan sa altis (2001) nya is yung breakpads which i assume common sa mga A/T variants. she uses it daily and so far wala naman na akong narinig sa kanya na problema. sabi pa nga nya matipid sa gas kasi ikinumpara ba naman sa 1997 corona na kotse ng kapatid nya hehehehe

was there a 1.8G in 2000/2001? afaik 1.6G back then..

nevertheless, a 30% to 40% price reduction over 5 years is really amazing. toyota's and honda's really ARE overpriced on the used market here, but that's an advantage for new car buyers.

Nobody would be selling them for those prices if nobody were buying them at those prices. Even though they're ubiquitous, everybody wants them!

Altis owner here. I love the car but i love our jazz more haha

    * Power windows are kinda sluggish
    * Fuel consumption is 9.5km/l mixed driving conditions.5passengers. Our 1.5Jazz goes at 12 km/l both on petron xtra unleaded
*1.6E Head unit is very simple
    *Speed limitter set at 150
*CHEAP car to maintain compared to the jazz

Kumander ni utol naka-Altis. Buhay pa naman kahit sobrang walang malasakit dun sa sasakyan ang owners and user. Kapatid ko na lang ata nag-aalaga dun.

yeah i agree with the brakes on my altis nastuck up na yung brakes the first time it was under warranty the 2nd time was just last 2 weeks pero it was fixed for 2k worth of parts lang then yung windows nga lang nagkakaproblem minsan de na bumababa pero all of those things naman are small problems mas impt ay reliable yung whole car especially the engine

for me, yung altis is a car na worry free talaga e mas confident pa ako i out of town yung altis ko khit na manual at 1.6 lang makina kasi mas sure ako na walang problemang pwde mangyari the worst is a tire blowout siguro at least pag nagkasira simple lang unlike my xtrail na matic nga etc etc luxury features suv pero nag check engine na while on edsa yun apla may defect yung TCM

and yeah fuel milage depends naman yan sa way you drive it e tsaka i disagree with the limited 150kph speed coz umabot na ako ng 170kph sa altis 1.6m/t

....we have the 1.6G A/T matipid sa gas and surprisingly, kahet pa-gasan ko lang ng 200petot parang ang laki ng inaakyat nung fuel needle. quite roomy but i find the interior and instrumentations too bland for my taste.

....pardon my ignorance, what's the ECT button for?

so true. solid yung ride ng altis without being too soft and without being too stiff. and not too noisy inside, even at high revs.

heck, by comparison, our outlander feels a bit more brusko than the altis.

ECT stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission. When it's in the "Normal" or "Off" mode your tranny shifts earlier for economy drive. When you set it to "Power" or "On" mode, the ECT lets the engine rev higher before it shifts to the next gear. It's way more fun, pero mas matakaw sa gasolina.

it's just me pero i like the gimmicks na rin on the altis like auto-locking doors when you go above 20kph... :D

and true, i can say a lot of positive things na rin about the altis, even if we don't own one. madalas ako nakakasabay sa altis ng college barkada ko dati kasi.

Front break pads still thick at 18K kms. I think it'll be good for up to 50K kms, estimate lang. This is not bad for an A/T, my dad's civic had to be replaced at 40K, prior to the sounding of the wear indicator tho. Nasa driving style din yan.

Shock Absorbers - yes, I've heard stories about this. They're saying that it wont last long, but mine's still OK, and with the 3 year warranty, that's the least of my problems right now. Heck, my Lynx's dampers got busted on it's 3.5th year, and the Lancer's needed replacement almost every 30K kms. Civic's (EK) the best, It's stock until I sold the car at over 6yo, but most underchassis parts have been reparied/replaced.

Oil leaks, this is new, san daw yung leaks? engine ba or tranny?

Altis is still the leader because IMO, it's the safest choice for the average Pinoy. I'm counting that at the end of the ownership, I'd still get a good residual value - pandagdag sa next purchase. While, not spending too much on it's maintenance (mileage is good, parts are very affordable). I used to prefer cars with the 'percieved' sportiness and if I still do, then the Altis will not be my choice. Heck, I opted for the Lynx over the SIR several years ago, ngayon pa hehehe.

helloooo? Toyota? We're receiving the same engine as the rest of Asean, and they only claim it at 126-130 elsewhere? Ang galing yata ng marketting nila.

Whereas the new Civic 1.8, proven 140hp na sa mga mag tests.... away na!

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    if an altis gets 9.5km/L as reported above, over 50000km that's 5263L, at 38 pesos/L that's 200,000 worth.
a jazz at 12.5km/L would be 4000L, or 152,000. 48,000 difference over 5 years or 800 per month. pretty negligible compared to the other costs (the largest of which would be the acquisition cost itself).

Why is the Altis still selling so well?
