    hello fortuner owners!

kararating ko lng from a long drive and i think something is wrong with my fortuner.

I had my full tank last saturday (January 27, 2006) for my unit G variant D4D 2.5DSL. previous full tank: January 8, 2006

    Fuel quantity: 53.12L

Km travelled: 419.2Km (Mostly short drives with in the town - average speed: 20-30KMH and highway drive of 150Km - ave speed of 80-100KPH)

    Fuel Mileage: 7.89Km per Liter

Tocloy: Did you suddenly applied your brakes? It can be your ABS if you stepped on the brake. I have a full cabin on several trips and I was not able to hear unusual sound on my unit except on the instances that I mentioned above and it is coupled with pedal pulsation.

anong klaseng tunog? can you describe the kind of sound that it makes? kelan lumalabas? Just before the wheel starts rolling or pagikot mismo ng gulong or at a certain speed na?

i already encountered the sound of ABS during hard braking. the one that i'm experiencing now is different. feels like something is grinding underneath if i suddenly hit uneven pavement at high speeds.

any of you noticed the spring behind the rear differential? the one that is attached to the stabilizer. what's its purpose? i think that's the one that makes the sound when it is stretched and suddenly released.

The only drawback is that with the Fortuner, you have to shift to Neutral or Park before you can engage the 4WD gear lever.
    Full article HERE

To Fortuner 4x4 owners, can anyone confirm this and what does it mean?

    1. shift neutral on the transfer case or on the transmission (sorry if its a stupid question-never owned a 4x4 vehicle ever).

That spring is part of your LSPV (load sensing proportioning valve) for your rear drum brakes. There should be no noise from that spring since it only serves as a tensioner to maintain optimum brake pressure for proper rear LSPV functioning - better have it checked.

Question: on the Fortuner, is ABS implemented on front and rear brakes, or front only (with rear at LSPV only)? Those of you who have engaged your ABS, did you hear ABS clatter at front and rear brakes? If front & rear, malamang 3-channel ABS system nyo. One channel for each brake caliper sa front (so that makes two) and one common channel for the rear drums working in conjunction with your LSPV - my guess.
