Not a good place to live in though, I am not saying RP is good but I'd rather be here than there where the government is oppressive... That's their perk so to speak... Kotse lang yan, I rather have a more quality life!

Usually countries that rely on surpluses are those where there's no car industry to speak of. Obviously surpluses have a big advantage in tariffs. Pag na sira mga iyan, ubod ng sakit na ulo aabutin diyan. For sure walang warranty mga iyan.

For sure, Pinas pa rin ako. Lalo na sa korupsyon, mas grabe dun. Pero why can't we import quality surplus? Kasi nga di kampi ng mga consumers ang CAMPI.

Actually, daming repair shops dun with orig surplus parts and accessories. May Toyota authorized dealer din sa Phnom Penh that some surplus owners go to for servicing and parts

Not that I'm a CAMPI lover, but considering our market size vis-a-vis other countries e mawawala ang local car industry. If you think about it, bakit nila jinunk yang mga kotse na iyan in the first place? What is the service histories of these surplus cars? Me, i'd rather opt for a local second hand vehicle than go for suplus ones.

May auto market pala tayo? What local car industry? You mean car assembly? Francisco Motors?

Tingin ko kaya nila binebenta yung mga late model Toyotas (take note, most of them are early to mid 2000 models), eh kasi may newer models na ang Toyota and those are really surplus or used for 2-3 years only in some Asian markets

Actually Toyota makes car in the RP specifically Vios and Innova. Honda makes cars here but only the City. Mitsubishi makes a lot of cars here like the Lancer, Adventure and L300 variations, Ford also makes car here like the Focus... So meron din tayong small industry... I am not against surplus or imports, basta pay the proper taxes.

Ford has a plant here, Mitsubishi has a plant in Cainta, Toyota, Isuzu, they do have plants here. What would happen if their investments do not recoup? Gray or black market imports are bad IMHO. There is a reason why surplus or imported vehicles need to be taxed the way they are taxed. To spur local involvement of foreign car manufacturers and to discourage importation - to generate more local jobs, spur the economy, so on and so forth.
