That was the high mileage cars thread: high mileage cars - what's the clock of ur odometer?

There was a good follow-up post from oj88 detailing how this might be happening because of a possible weakness in the Forward Clutch Drum C1 of the transmission: high mileage cars - what's the clock of ur odometer?

Poorly designed transmission drum that is prone to cracks and eventually break. Later models have the redesigned parts.

May issue pero hindi gumawa ng recall ang toyota before regarding diyan? If so, bat kaya?

Since same issue ang pinag-uusapan, nabanggit ko din ata diyan sa ibang thread na baka may kinalaman sa fortuner specifically dahil sa paddle shifters. Pero hindi naman daw.

Itong si Randz, parang si Scotty Kilmer.... highly opinionated.

The C1 forward clutch drum, kapag hindi engaged (ie. Neutral or Park), walang 'kaskasan' ng mga clutch packs. There is always boundary ATF between them and there is no clutch-to-clutch plate contact. Also, any debris will just be thrown out by centrifugal force.

But I've learned to take his word with a grain of salt. Yung structural integrity ng C1 clutch is really an issue that also happened in other countries like Australia and maybe even NZ, where the Hilux and Fortuner are also sold (until recently for the Fortuner). It was a perfect storm of sorts... relatively mahina yung structure ng drum and then sinamahan pa ng possibly aggressive na solenoid activation by the software.

Anyway, mas paniniwalaan ko si CarCareNut when it comes to Toyotas. He has made I think a couple of videos about how to change ATF on the AC60 (and Toyota A/Ts in general). He explains when you can change all of the fluid vs drain & fill only. Suffice to say, the A/T generally needs a bit of the old ATF left in the sump as it offers a degree of grit for the clutch packs to bite. Otherwise, a super clean ATF will just cause slippage and create more clutch wear. He explained this very succinctly.

Yes, when it comes to Toyota's, CarCareNut is way better. Very good explanation and backed by many years handling Toyota cars both as an employee of a delaership and as a auto shop owner. Mas okay nag daw drain and refill basta sundin ang manufacturer reco when it comes to interval and drving habit.
