in my OWN opinion, mas ok pa din ang Di direction injection at natural aspirated typ kesa sa CRDI. mas trusted and reliable at proven na 2 kesa sa crdi although crdi engine is the latest in terms of diesel power high maintenance nga lang ang crdi compared sa Di at Na!! kost pikup here at DI and NA at proven na!!! beside, toyata is not known for diesel engines, consider NISSAN ISUZU OR MITSUBISHI those are tested brands in diesel.!!!

So what's your point? Let some other poor shmuck be the guinea pig while you wait for two or three years before embracing new diesel technology, especially if it was developed by Toyota?

I know a car is a huge investment and we want something that we shell out hard earned money for to work flawlessly for several years. However, I think that companies like Toyota or even Kia and Hyundai should be supported for pushing for the development of new diesel technologies, especially those that result in cleaner emissions and greater fuel efficiency.

The Toyota D4D problem sucks, and the roundabout way that Toyota Phils is dealing with it leaves much to be desires, but that's why there's such a thing as a product warranty and consumer advocacy, to make these car companies accountable for the vehicles they sell us.

Just want to point it out that you can't make a blanket conclusion that an engine is superior based on technology alone as what altec has been saying and that's why I quoted his statement.

And I'm not trying to bash Toyota, in fact one of my vehicles is a Toyota.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and Peace.

BD might be the answer for the D4D Engine Woes but still it won't erase the fact that the spring in their fuel pump is not up to par with our dirty fuel or it will be up to par with other CRDI systems. For me, it will just be a band-aid solution. Better if Toyota will correct this problem and replace it with a better spring or better CRDI system which is more compatible to our fuel.

    Just my 2 cents.

Of course, he'll say that. He works for the company. hehehe. How can the plant fix it when all they do is assemble? It's a supplier problem, not an assembly error.

It's true. They wont say that the problem dont exist anymore or else the consumer wont buy their product. I hope it wont happen to you but be more cautious and if the problem occurs send it back to your dealer for their immediate action before it gets worse. Plus, its under warranty.. Enjoy your new ride bro!

    Hi everyone!

I just had my Innova J D4D serviced for 5,000km and so far I am averaging 10.39km/l since purchase. So far no problems yet. I am actually quite happy with it. No smoke, no unstable idling.

yup, fuel quality is the usual culprit sa mga crdi engines/ injectors.

try switching to another gas station. choose a station who has a lot of customers and a clean place. these usually translates to them having a higher priority to their customers than profit. IMHO

parang hindi ata pare... e hindi naman factory defect yan.. meron nga kami kotse mejo nasira injection pump n bago yun ha,, dahil unclean yun fuel, meron daw water yun fuel.. pinpapabayd kami kc hindi raw factory defect d damage was caused due to outside force or contaminants, which is tru naman...

ang trend ngayon for diesel engines is puro CRDi na...so this problem shouldn't be specific to D4Ds per se. it's a problem that all diesel cars will have to deal with sooner or later

ironic though...nagpasa tayo ng clean air act, pero diesel natin marumi

I was one of those who mentioned of the innova choking problems over at the biodiesel rulez thread here. I did mention that in my biodiesel fuel economy results thread but in kotse.com site.

At the cold start, the car wont maintain its idling, namamatay, you have to rev it high for a while or else mamatay ang makina. When its warm, wala ang problema. I've been using 1% estrol for almost 2,000km when it happened. I thought it had something to do with my findings with contaminated biodiesel. But before I was able to bring it in to the casa, I had the fuel filter checked by my inhouse motorpool, kasi takot ako na pagmaymakita sa casa related to biodiesel, baka ma void ang warranty. When my chief mechanic inspected the filter, he noticed it was loose, and may have allowed air into the system. He continued to check the filter and found it clean. Inspected the fuel that passes through the filter and found it clear. Reinstalled the primary spin on fuel filter and tightened it, and nawala ang problema.

When I mentioned it at the biodiesel thread, may nagcomment di kaya dahil nalinis ang filter kaya nawala ang palyado, rather than the loose filter? Kasi nag comment din ako din naman ginalaw ang filter, bakit lumuwag? So just this week, I had my innova undergo the 5,000 pms. I specifically asked the service advisor to clean out my fuel tank and inspect it. At this time, no symptoms at all of the palyado, but I did mention it to the service advisor na matagal ko na kilala, since my ae92 corolla days. When he released my innova, he reported the liquid diesel to be clear, and the bottom of the tank to be clean. In effect, he gave a clean bill of health on my unit. He also knows of my use of biodiesel and he gave me the go signal before I used it.

One of the reason why I was concerned was due to my experience on contaminated biodiesel, which caused me to replace my fuel filter priming pump on my kia sedona. And this has affected several of my trucks. Now, I know how to distinguish the contaminated biodiesel and we now inspect before we mix it into our diesel.
