Informational lang, not discouraging you from buying original. It's very possible, even likely na iba yung manufacturing spec for a KYB-built shock meant to be sold as OEM Toyota vs one they'll under their own brand.
You think I should get KYB na lang? I'll call Toyorama again and ask how much is their KYB. Pero kung KYB baka rear lang palitan ko para orig pa din front ko [emoji23]

i use kayaba (KYB! heh heh).
after several years, i had already forgotten when i replaced them, and they are/were still fine.

if you have a choice between regular and heavy duty, go heavy duty. they make for smoother ride. or so google says. heh heh.

oem simply means, the brand and model that manufacturers use in their assembly lines. it does not necessarily mean the manufacturer manufactures it, as well.

Unless you have a particular application (transporting heavy loads, etc.), I would recommend against heavy duty shocks.

So why is Walter not recommending KyB for long term if it's KYB that makes OEM/Toyota original shocks din?

It's possible kasi that the spec is different. Baka the ones they make for Toyota are heavier duty than the ones they sell themselves. Can't really tell for sure without getting both shocks and cutting them up to compare.

Here's a 3-page discussion on KYB vs OEM Toyota from another forum:

    KYB vs OEM struts

Personal opinion though knowing which OEM makes the original parts for your car is one of the veteran tricks to saving money on maintenance. Like getting Aisin instead of Mitsubishi/Subaru water pump, etc.

it is possible that the shock absorber manufacturer makes OEM items with one set of specifications, and another, off-the-counter item with another set of specifications, both for the exactsame car.
and depending on the agreement between car manufacturer and shocks manufacturer, the OEM items might be made available only thru the casa and its authorized outlets/dealers.
    cow only.

addendum: sinabi na pala ni dr. kam. heh heh.

I searched din a Altis Club and some comments are saying that KYB rides stiff (same as the discussion above)

What's important for me is the car won't get matagtag because I am extremely hilohin. I can sense agad if a car is matagtag, I get nauseous. That is also the reason why I chose an Altis over a Hilux because Tsikoteers said matagtag daw Hilux

But if the ride is the same lang, and price has a huge difference, KYB is the practical choice nga.

OR should I just replace the rear lang with Original since the front is still okay? (I am still mind blown why the rear gave out earlier than the front since nobody ever rides at the back naman or super rare talaga)

Yup, Dr Kamiya explained it well. Now I am curious of the price difference between OEM and KYB. I will wait for Casa's quote if they will recommend replacement sa front.
