Hi Guys, if you'd choose between a 2008 Honda City 1.3 idsi AT and a 2007 Altis 1.6G AT what would you choose?

What's the FC of 2007 altis 1.6g AT? Im still a bit undecided which one to buy. I manage to borrow money from my mom, my budget is around 400K.

Definitely the Altis 1.6G. The i-DSI City looks ugly to me, and I liken its body to a cockroach. The Altis is more spacious, larger, has more features, is faster, and looks a lot better. The only advantage that the City 1.3 has is that it's more fuel efficient. In AT form, it gets around 10 km/L in city driving, while the Altis gets about 9 km/L in the same conditions.

I'd agree. Except if you really want your car to be very fuel efficient, i'd go with the Altis as well or a Honda Jazz 1.3 instead of the City.

Update on FC again. 10.9km/L using Shell Super Premium. Mostly regular city traffic with a Manila to Pampanga Highway drive on a semi heavy foot, engine braking and speeds between 110-155kph. I'm switching back to Shell Regular Unleaded where i feel i got the best FC. I'm also verifying if the rim/tire change did any significant changes to FC.

Using GPS, the new tires (slightly larger diameter than stock) gave me a 2.5kph difference from actual speedo readings. Closer to actual speed as compared to the 4.5kph difference on the stock 15 inch rims.

^ Vinj, what do you mean 2.5kph difference? Yung speedo mo sobra sa actual or less sa actual speed?

On stock tires, at 100kph on the speedo, i was doing around 95 to 96kph per the GPS. With the new tires, i'm doing 97.5kph to 98kph per GPS while my speedo reads 100kph flat.

Speedos usually read more than the actual speed.

Gwapong gwapo, eh.

Depends sa size ng tire din. With 18s, they'll have to go down to a 40 aspect ratio i think so with a 225/40R18 tire, per tire size calculator, the actual speed will be almost similar to the stock 195/65R15 tires. The 215/50R17 tires will still have a larger overall diameter versus the 225/40R18s.

The wider tires will make you feel the road imperfections more but in terms of tagtag, no problem as the car still runs soft. Mine would feel a bit harder mainly due to the 34psi i run on all tires (matter of preference). Body roll decreased significantly over the tall OEM tires and what i'm looking more at now is how it will affect my FC.

Hassle yung panahon. Maaraw the whole day then uulan sa gabi. Almost every day, madumi yung kotse.

^I like the color of those rims.

Noticed also they already classify the Altis as a medium sized sedan. Mas mahal na tuloy LTO registration.

I decided to drive the FD that was lent to me back to back with the Altis (which I'll be leaving at the casa for a repaint tomorrow) since I think tonight was the only chance I'll get to drive the two one after another.

While they're both rated at 140 hp, the power delivery couldn't have been more different. The Altis' 3ZR-FE has lots of grunt from the get-go, all the way to about 5000 rpm, and past this it feels like a tired athlete gasping for air but nonetheless trying to keep going. The FD's R18A1 on the other hand, feels very sedate up to about 4500 rpm, and you'd really feel the torque disparity. I was never a fan of the "VTEC just kicked in 'yo" mantra, but the engine really does feel more alive at higher rpms all the way to its 7000 rpm redline.

Transmission-wise, hands down the Civic has the better transmission, which is not only more responsive, but also has more gears which equates to better spaced ratios. Even in S-mode with the Altis, the FD's transmission still responds faster, though it's not particularly quick, nowhere near the Mz3 2.0 I drove recently. The Altis has paddle-shifters though, which the pre-facelift FD doesn't.

Steering feel and suspension feedback are both sharper with the Civic, which makes it feel less hefty than the Altis, even when the latter's lighter. At city cruising speeds though, the Altis feels more comfortable and less tiring to drive than the FD. Must be the hard seats. Or the annoyingly long dashboard.

In the end I feel like I've grown up too fast - a few years back I despised the softness of the Altis and wished we had bought an FD 2.0 or Focus TDCi instead. Now, I realize each car has it's merits and the Altis isn't all that bad. Love your own, as they say.

This is the case with a lot of us. I loathed the Altis before due to it's lack of driving feel and high driving position and preferred the Civic FD way over my 9th gen. I used to coin the Altis 1.6E a/t of my sister as a golf cart. Over time though, i grew to appreciate the better comfort, insulation and the design which seems to grow on you. Age nga Of course, come repair/service time, i find it cheaper to maintain the Corolla.

On the engine, that's why Honda engines are called "torqueless wonders"; they have no low end grunt and are tuned for power after you go over the 4,000rpm range all the way to redline. Its powerband is located at the high rpm range.

Haha... trying to decide what's better? Altis is definitely better for me now. After trying the new Civic my sister got, I would cash out for the 2.0CVT any day. Epekto siguro din ng Honda SiR haterrzzz thread. :D

Some minor gripes on the Altis though:
    - no coin holder (to hold loose change for parking)
    - lacks flat spaces to hold my cellphone and stuff, unless i open my cupholder
    - On the analog a/c dials of the E model, if you accidentally open the rear window defogger switch, it's hard to notice that it's on as the indicator light is similar to the a/c panel lighting.

Nah, not really. Some cars are just dead awful, but in this case, the best car varies per person. While the facelifted 2.0V is a much better car than the one I drive, if someone gave me money to get a TOTL compact today, I'd still get a Focus TDCi just because I prefer drivers' cars. But I'm sure that somewhere out there, someone's looking for a car that's fast, comfortable, feature-filled, and timeless. I don't see any other 2.0 compact that fits the bill more than the Altis 2.0V.

For the coin holder, have you tried using the storage area to the left of the steering wheel, near the hood release lever? That's where I put my loose change. As for the phone storage area, I use the cupholders too, but when I've got it filled with drinks, I put it in the storage located by the side of the center cluster. Kinda hard to reach, but it's deep enough that the phone won't fall under heavy braking or whatever other circumstance.

Sadly, yes. There aren't any provisions in the center console for a digital clock :|

Hi im having a hard time choosing if i should get a 2012 1.6v or 2.0v altis. Ive already checked both variant and looks are the same, both are with push button start and keyless entry(?) the only difference that i noticed are the engine, autofold sidemirror, auto-wiper, leather seats, power seats, (leather) sterring wheel and headlight.

i just want to know whats the fc of the 2.0 compared to 1.6? my use for it will be 90% city driving. Kasi if di malaki difference ng fc i think il go with the top of the line nalang. im now driving a 2002 altis e and 2002 honda city di naman kami umaalma sa fc nya. pero kung kasing takaw ang 2.0 sa ford escape and mitsubishi fuzion ay mag 1.6v nalang ako.

Power folding side mirrors - Useful if you're in a tight road that you wouldn't be able to traverse if you don't close your side mirrors. Also useful when you're too lazy or tired to close the side mirrors of your car when you park. Looks cool too. In the end though, it's something you can live without.

Rain-sensing Wipers - Interesting feature at first, but after 3 years of ownership, I've gotten tired of this. Sure it's more convenient that you leave it in Auto mode and forget about dealing with your wipers forever, but in practice, minsan hindi tugma yung wiper speed sa level ng rain. I don't mind having this removed, for me OK na yung variable intermittent wipers.

Leather seats - Back then, I was a big fan of leather seats. Siyempre sosyalin diba. But leather seats have their drawbacks too - grabe ang init pag nabilad sa araw, and it starts developing nasty creases as time passes. I still prefer leather seats over fabric ones, pero OK lang talaga kung fabric lang.

Leather steering wheel - More than the steering wheel material, I think yung paddle shifters yung bigger loss. With the slow 4-AT that the 1.6V has, medyo useful talaga yung paddle shifters. Kung hindi ka naman ganun kainteresado sa gears ng kotse mo, ok lang na wala 'to.

Xenon headlamps - VERY USEFUL feature. Yun nga lang, madali lang magpalagay nito sa labas eh. Kahit projector pa, pagawa mo lang kay sir garyq, 20k lang nakaprojector HID headlamps ka na.

90% city driving ba kamo? 1.6V definitely. City FC ng 2.0V CVT is around 8 km/L, habang nasa 9.5 km/L ang 1.6V. Malaking difference na rin yan. Kahit naman sa highway, 122 horsepower should be sufficient for you unless you're really looking for power.
