Hi. the new engines are now equipped with Dual VVTi.
    The new Engine codes are:

    2NR-VE & 1NR-VE.

Compared with the previous engines, it runs smoother and quieter than before.

    Good morning..

I was at Toyota Commonwealth last weekend and was able to check out the “New” Avanza.
    - Same body equipped with Newly designed front (Headlights, etc.), rear (almost the same, added few details “ala-innova”)
    - Middle Row seats (50/50, sliding)
    - 3rd Row (50/50 folding), almost the same as mobilio in terms of comfort (almost no thigh support).
    - Dual VVTi
    - New Headunit
So far, yung new engine ang pinakarelevant sa lahat.. Sayang din walang unit for test drive..

I’m fully aware na most new vehicles can do yung uphill sa baguio..

Mas mabigat lang avanza ng more or less 20 kilo

it's not so much the body weight, as it is the engine design, po.
we must keep in mind that the avanza engine is a muggle daihatsu, not a pure-blood toyota... even as daihatsu is partly owned by toyota..

Not the same engine, even with the old one. The old Avanza used 3SZ-VE and K3-DE engines, while the Vios has always used NZ engines.

The engines werent super efficient. Drivetrain loss from the rear wheel drive configuration.

As said before 15% improved fc on 1.3 and 20% for 1.5L engine. The improvement only means the old engines were crap.

Bukod sa mahina yung engine at drivetrain loss, possible rin yung wind resistance dahil mas mataas siya vs sedans like the vios. Wala ako data to prove this pero I'd like to think malaki effect nito lalo na sa highway driving. One more factor is the transmission, pero again I have no info what kind of tranny they use in the Avanza vs what's in the Vios/Yaris. What I know for the old Avanza is that AT is slow and drop in rpms when upshifting is noticeable. Not sure it they updated the transmission together with the engine.

Yes coefficient of drag is a factor sa highway .36(old avanza) vs .28(vios). But for stop and go its not too bad.

    talagah...!!
and city driving kaya... which is what we drive most of the time..?

when the avanza first came out, i got turned off by its fuel in-efficiency.. my office colleague says his AT struggles to do 7 km/li in the city..
if the new engine is much better than that, i will certainly put it in my #1 list..
