as you may all know already, the ECHO's sales in america has virtually disapperaed thus it was no surprise the car was dropped from the US lineup. people thought since there's toyota's successful Scion line, the echo (and for that matter the dead Celica will not be replaced (scion tC=celica, scion xA=ECHO). the celica will remain dead, but it appears like toyota USA will replace the ECHO with the Yaris to be offered in 3 variants:H/B,S and D (hatchback, sedan but what's the D?). on sale across the 50 states on march 2006:

the obvious US engine is probably the 1.5L....looks like toyota will have more success this time around with this subcompact car

launched in Japan last year. Looks realy good. I just wonder if they will still have a 4dr version.

Hi Mojo, even if Toyota owns Daihatsu, Toyota didnt rebadged the Echo/Yaris as Daihatsu.

You might be talking about the Daihatsu Sirion/Toyota Duet:

Ayan nanaman center gauge cluster... Di ko talaga "masakyan" hehe.

Plus you have to move your eyes diagonally instead of just down to check anything, while driving!

yeah, but there's this bourgeoning micro-car/subcompact car market here. i think it was made possible by toyota's scion ,that's why nissan and honda are also bringing in their small cars like the jazz, the sport concept and the cube.
not to mention kia's,hyundai's and the aveo.

Ang Echo at Yaris ay iisang modelo na magkaiba ang badge depende sa bansa. Sa UK ay Yaris at Echo naman sa Phil, dunno sa ibang bansa pero iisa sila.

This is the Yaris Tsport in UK with 1.5 engine.

Ah, so the Toyota Vios MIGHT make it to the US. Anyway, the Vios is also based on the Echo/Yaris/Vitz/Platz platform.

As we all know, the Echo here was so expensive. It was more expensive than the XE AE111 Corolla 5 years ago. To fill up the space left by the Echo, TMPI decided to bring the Vios here. It was much cheaper because it is imported from Detroit of Asia.

i read today Inquirer Cocktales column today. Apparently toyota's planning to bring the Echo/Yaris here next year, to compete kuno with the cheaper korean minis.

personally, i don't know how toyota's gonna price this baby; the standard vios is already at a relatively low 550k; not much incentive to get the yaris unless they price it in the mid-400k range imho -- which i think is quite impossible, what with the toyota badge's price premium
