A GLi would be recommended since it has a EFi (Electronically Fuel Injected Engine), tons of spare parts, good fuel economy, and excellent reliability. Fuel Injected engines have an edge in fuel consumption, which the XE doesnt (it is carburated). Carburated engines do have an advantage in performance, and maintenance is easy but fuel consumption is not good as what it's EFi counterparts have.
Try testing a unit (one XE and one GLi), the Corolla is a good choice for a first time owner. Other known alternatives in the class (and budget) include the Lancer GLXi, Sentra Super Saloon, and Familia GLi.
Yep. Get the GLi. Cheaper to maintain. Has a superb interior space. Plus, hindi ka ititrik. Take it from me, bigbody owner din ako. Just check the usual things like kung nabaha or hindi, plus you could bring a mechanic of yourself para macheck ang kotse all throughout. Kasi, admittedly ... there is a high chance na may problem na yan since it's over a decade car na.
As for the alternatives. I would not suggest the Lancer since it's been known that its suspension is suckish. Madaling bumigay. Madaling humina. Maybe you could try looking at the Sentras of the same age.
Thank you very much po for your replies. Actually hindi ko na tinignan yung XE na nirerecommend sakin nung "Honest" daw na agent from the other website who happens to be my ka-province. Nagdodouble agent pala siya, between me at duon sa nirerecommend nya, ayaw niya daw i-recommend yung Gli dahil there are some issues with its computer thing i believe it's the EFI Technology. I'm back-reading yung old merged thread ng Corolla dito (AE101, very educational), most of my questions na sagot na duon. Again po, maraming salamat po. GB
