Toyota conveyed the press today to present their 10th generation of Corolla, this car has been a best-seller ever since 1966 and sold more than 3 million units throughout the world.

The presentation was made at the MegaWeb show-room and Toyota’s President, Mr Watanabe, introduced the Corolla Sedan AXIO and the Wagon version, known as the FIELDER.

As the 10th generation of a huge success Toyota was expected to propose a car that would stay at the top through equipment and safety systems. On these new versions we have some elements of the Pre-Crash System (available on the Lexus LS-460) such as the Radar Cruise Control or the intelligent Parking Assist.
    New car, new engines : a 1.5 litre producing 110HP and 140Nm and a 1.8 litre of 136HP and 175Nm. Both are CVT-i (Super Continuously Variable Transmission-Intelligent).

Design wise the appearance of the vehicle is sportier than before and elegant, this differs a lot from what we were used to with the previous versions. On the AXIO for example there is a “Sweep Cut Pillar” giving a nice and smooth look to the rear of the car.

it allows for easier access and that it is harder to crack than conventional start-up systems.

Carnappers and vehicle thieves (ie. yung Bukas-Kotse gang) would have a harder time to get pass the system.

And in higher-end vehicles, start-stop push buttons would allow the steering wheel to automatically adjust its tilt-and-telescopic positions based on the memory settings saved on the key fob.

    Hmmm... first impressions:

    1. The body lines look very good, tall greenhouse, but swoopy lines tend to disguise it. Like the Vios and Camry, eschews the bubble-top look for more traditional, swoopy lines. Of course, this limits rear seat window space, but who gives a damn about the third class peons in the rear... ...I always sit in front, even with a driver.

    2. The front and rear are kind of anonymous, but as the body is nice, that's okay, they might be changed by the time it hits the Philippine market.

    3. Interior is nice and clean. Glad to see they haven't gone the Vios way, with the central digital gauges. Oh, if central gauges are the way of the future, please give us a few more decades to evolve out of the habit of looking through the steering wheel for the rev counter...

    4. Fake wood. Meh. At least the marbled grain is better than straight grain.

    5. 1.5 liter engine again. At last, some sensibility returns to the compact class. Waitaminute... Nissan still has a 1.3... ...but seriously, thank goodness they're bringing small engines back.

    6. Sadly, the whole thing looks like a mere facelift on the outside. The shape of the front greenhouse looks the same, and the overall proportions are unchanged. Is this really the 10th generation international model change, or a local facelift for whatever market this is for?

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
