Corolla 1997 high temperature/overheating issues

check your radiator or ac fan if its working. if both is working, then as joey suggested get your radiator check. if its not a radiator issue, you are looking on an expensive repair (engine overhual).

can you determine if the thermo fans (located on the radiator) are functioning at all when hot?
You should hear them turning on and off, and if you switch the air-conditioner on, they should both be on! If not then this is the issue and its a simple electrical fault.
Also, is there any cream coloured sludge being deposited on the inside of you oil filler cap? If so, this means you have a head gasket issue.
finally, do you get any white smoke out the exhaust when idling, if so then even more certain of head gasket issue.

i dont think it needs an engine overhaul, pinacheck ko lang lately engine ko and it its still in good condition and running very well.
