    Hello mga kuys!

My sister gave me her Toyota Vios 2014 AT E because she's leaving the country soon. But I am not sure if it is not in good condition. I mean, she already gave it to me so maintenance is all on me now and I have little on how car maintenance works. I need your expertise in checking what should be done.

    Quick background.
ODO: At least 115,000kms already (been used a lot for the manila-north route)
    Problems:
    1) Right side door got hit by a jeep before (paint job and repair is not that great, there are even some rust marks on the inner side of the door)
    2) One of the thin horizontal bars on the grill is bent
    3) There are noticeable body scratches (some were hit on a trashcan, curbs, etc)
    4) Park light on the right side is not working
    5) Headlight has a yellowish tint already
    6) Paint is kind of faded? (not as shiny as brand new cars) probably because it is usually parked under a tree shade
    7) Sometimes there's a squeaky sound when I brake
    8) On rough and bumpy roads, there's a sound I hear on the front that feels like something is loose. I'm not sure how to checkk

    Questions
    1) What are the things that I should check knowing that the ODO is already at 115,000 and more?
    2) What engine oil should I use? Fully synth, semi-synthetic, or just regular one?
    3) How often should I change the oil? 3 months? 5KM?
    4) What else should I check every time I change the engine oil?
    5) Can I just have the whole car be repainted and repaired so the color, shine, dents, and bruises will be fixed? I'm assuming that would cost around 30k? What's the downside of doing this?
    6) Is it possible to just buy the black part of the grill to fix the thin horizontal bar?
    6) How much would a park light replacement cost? I saw some Vios with LED park lights, those look nice.
    7) How do I fix the yellowish headlight tint?

Any other tips for first-time car owners? Help a beginner out. Thank you so much!

If you are near fairview, id recommend going Dadudz im north caloocan for all the mechanical works. They specialize in everything Vios as long as its mechanical. The owner founded the toyota vios maintenance page in facebook and give free DIY advise.

For the bodyworks problem, if the door is really bad, have it replaced with a surplus part. Then go to a bodyshop near you and do washover.

For the yellow heaslights, you can DIY and polish it or sand paper then polish, or you can have it detailed. Last option is to replace.

    it would appear,
you're in luck. you got it for free.

much of your listing are cosmetic. easily fixed. all it needs is money. heh heh.

engine oil. mineral oil for me. change oil + oil filter every 5K km.
other folks might prefer the more expensive synthetic oil + longer change interval. it's your choice, really.

regarding paint. if the dents and scratches are widespread, and you did say the paint is kinda faded... it might be better to washover it. some shops offer a hilamos package. 26K kesos thereabouts. cheaper if kaibigan mo yung tao/howner. request them to pay extra attention to the rusted segments. replace or cut-and-weld?

a non-functional park light might just need bulb replacement. the owner's manual should show how to do it. 50 bucks. less if china (ugh!. go osram etc.).

    yellowed headlight lens.
    some may recommend re-polishing.
personally, i would replace it. 3K thereabouts.

have the mechanics check the brakes, just in case the brake linings are thin and need replacing. replace the break fluid also. it's part of the script of newly-acquired-used-car syndrome. mention the squeaking sound. my altis' front left brake squeaks. pinatingin ko na. no dice. after a year, wala pa namang nalalaglag. pinabayaan ko na. heh heh.

    the bumpy road noises.
you probably have to replace the suspension wear-and-tear parts. have the mekanikos have a look. it's de-cajon. no secrets. any mechanic worth his wrenches should be able to do a good job. but it ain't cheap! don't forget to align afterward.

change the AT fluid. hey! it's a vios. very forgiving AT, but it's re-assuring to know that the fluid is new.

inquire from previous owner, re. timing belt (belt nga ba? hindi chain?) and serpentine belt (the so-called fan belt) history. replace as needed or as scheduled.

peruse the owner's manual for pms schedule, and determine what may apply to your new-used-car.
sirko's recommendation above (dadudz, vios specialist) seems promising. go.

    happy driving.

looks like we'll see another facelift before the 4th Gen is released locally

The Current-Generation Toyota Vios Gets Another Refresh, Added Safety Tech | CarGuide

Safety-wise, the 2023 Vios also gets Toyota Safety Sense for the top-of-the-line trim. This means the sub-compact sedan now offers pre-collision warning with emergency braking and lane departure warning. Lower event variants meanwhile, get either 3 or 6 airbags and standard ABS with EBD, and stability control.
It is more likely than not that the country will go the refresh route given its continued local assembly in Santa Rosa, Laguna as a commitment to the CARS program. It will likely make its debut in the next few months.

Baka needs some getting used to.

I still like the original body of the vios gen 3 (2013-2016). I had one, an entry level 2014 1.3j that guzzles fuel like a thristy expedition 5km/li.

Di ko din alam. Pabalik balik nga ng casa yun nung bago kasi sobrang lakas ng consumption. Pero normal naman daw lahat. Hehe. Eventually naging 7km/liter naman siya. Pero sobrang layo ng economy compared to my 2003 1.5G vios or to the 2008 1.3 vios that i concurrently had that time.

Binenta ko na lang as soon as i got the chance.
