If it's cold, I turn the aircon off. Even in Baguio, that's all that it takes.
Fog is when the outside is colder than the inside - using a heater will increase the temperature variance between the two, so it will make it worse.
All modern cars I've driven have a windshield defogger that blows air through the vents facing the windshield to get rid of the fog, allowing me to see clearly when driving in cold/rainy/foggy areas.

February 28th, 2017 05:21 PM #2123I may not a car expert (just a wannabe) but I'm driving one 60 kms everyday for 3 months now (I mean of course during weekdays only). Minor issues aside, wala po ako problema sa performance nya, engine power, shifting, etc. all well! Except the Eco-mode feature, I don't use it kasi parang naaa-under power ung makina so Normal driving lang ako. If you want an extra boost switch to Power mode. By the way, we've been to Baguio along Kennon rd this weekend with 6 pax including driver & each with trekking bag. Lakas ng hatak it's like you don't feel much the extra weight!

As with any vehicle, driver is to adjust to whatever they drive. drive slow or early braking or simply keeping distance.
Yesterday I drove a rental car an almera 1.5 because my colleague wants me to drive fast. the brakes are lousy because its pads are nearing replacement. no bite on the first 2 inches.
I drive an Elantra and of course the brakes are excellent with wider tires and new brake pads.

February 28th, 2017 05:52 PM #2126Thank you for bringing up about the brakes! I don't know kung mabigat lang paa ko or they designed it that way. Most of the time kasi during moderate traffic (moving then full stop) napapapreno ng bigla parang napaka-sensitive minor press kapit kagad tuloy minsan nasusubsob si wifey. So kelangan talaga extra careful & dapat ung anticipation mo laging handa. It isn't always a smooth stop for me! How about you mga Sirs, please share your experiences para ma-enlighten naman ako hehe

February 28th, 2017 07:46 PM #2128That's the typical character of drum equipped cars. Lakas ng initial bite since you have a very big surface area to clamp on vs disc brake pads and rotor setup
Actually, on our AutoX and Slalom cars, we usually prefer rear drums sa likod para madali malock rear wheels and do a 180 or 360 turn. Problem lang talaga is ung thermal efficiency so for circuit or time attack or street/strip setup, we use disc for rear as an upgrade.

February 28th, 2017 08:08 PM #2129Yup, tama si janemar, mas malaki surface area ng bite ng drum compared sa disc, so stopping power should not be the problem. In addition, drum brakes requires less pressure to move the brake shoe to the drum compared sa disc/rotor setup. So bakit yung ibang vehicles disc ang gamit sa likod? Ibig sabihin ni janemar sa thermal efficiency, mas mabilis mag cool down ang disc vs drum, kasi once na mainit pa ang contact surface, magkakaron ng brake fade. Kaya sa mga race/F1 cars etc... that requires frequent and hard braking that builds up heat, disc ang gamit (in addition sa mas maganda brake modulation ng disc/rotoror setup). SUV naman ang sasakyan natin, kaya the front disc/rear drum should be adequate enough to stop the vehicle.

The Fortuner's brakes feel like any other modern Toyota - strong bite at the start then goes linear until you floor it. Same response with my Altis, and with my friend's Hilux, and even the Vios.
In comparison, my Mazda has more linear braking where you need to depress the pedal a bit more to get the same bite as in a Toyota, even if the Mazda has new pads.

If that's the case, then hindi rin pala lahat ng nakaka-afford sa kanila ay hindi frugal mag-isip...
