The difference in consumption (8 km/L vs 5km/L, gas vs diesel) is only about 6k per month.

If you have 2.4M to buy a car, it's weird that 6k/month for gas is suddenly bothersome. The Explorer is still a better car than a blinged-out Fortuner.

2.4M nowadays is like barya in the bulsa na lang. You turn your head left & right then suddenly gone!

Besides, when you buy Explorer you must also consider the over all hefty maintenance not just the gas...oh + the Insurance!

Yeah the Explorer is more expensive to buy and own. But it's also a more powerful, more comfortable, more feature-packed car.

Personally, I'd get a Forester XT for that money and save the rest. Or a Fortuner 2.4V. The only reason to get the 2.8 is if you really need 4x4.

    it shouldn't.
but to some, there is a psychological block to it.
i have seen well-to-do people, who "bought something else" because of the projected monthly gas bills.

Quite true ... know someone who bought an Audi Q5 diesel instead of a Mazda CX-5 gasoline because diesel fuel is cheaper ... and that person raves about the cool features of the Audi ... like Hill Start Assist, LED headlights, push button start ... something most modern cars already have ...

I would choose Audi Q5 as well.... don't think that fuel expenses alone was the reason why they chose Audi Q5 over the Mazda CX-5.
