The Altima has been Nissan's competitor in the US midsize market for a long time and this model is designed more in the lines of the sportier midsize like the Accord, Mazda6, and Passat. The Altima was brought here to take a piece of the midsize market. Nissan did have some good sales with their older midsize sedans (Cefiro and Teana) and there are still a lot of them on the roads. You may need to test drive one and ask around for the best dealership in terms of maintenance.

VW had some problems with regards to meeting emission regulations in the US for their 2.0L turbo diesel engines and it also impacted Audi models which used the said diesel engines with a built-in emission-cheating software. It was a big mess that VW got into as we all know how strict the US is with their emission standards. For the Philippines, it does not matter at all since our emission standards are way more lax. However, VW-PH did state their local models don't have the cheating software.
