2010 Vios AT Engine Pinking

Good day people,

Recently, my wife complained of hearing ticking noises on her car's engine while driving. After much nagging .. .. I decided to take a look.. (or a drive). And here's the story:

At about 2000 rpm / 60 - 75 kph ... one can hear the very distinct "tope" .. which disappears once you step on the gas, or you slow down a bit. Now for a brand new car with all the electronic gadgetry for an engine ... this is not normal ...

Assumptions:

Fuel related? She loads up on fuel (unleaded) in the nearest gas station be it Shell, Petron, Jetti, Unioil ... etc.. Or does she need to load up on the more expensive premium variant?

Engine Management related? I know for a fact that the engine needs no adjustment (mechanical or otherwise), maybe a bad sensor or relay? Toyota RECALL / SILENT CAMPAIGN?

Anybody in here experiencing the same concern? ...

wtf, dumadami na ang ganitong issues related sa fuel. may ganitong issues sa new Tucson gas variants tumotope din.

anak ng tokwa, ano kaya ang meron sa unleaded gas natin ngayon?? ako naman masyadong naging mababa ang fuel consumption ko in spite of regular maintenance on my cars. at ngayon, 1 year palang fuel filter ko parang barado na kaagad dahil kumakabayo takbo nung isang auto ko.

nung kakakuha ko lang ng car ko 2 yrs ago, straight from casa, Shell gamit ko, since loyal ako dito for my other car. kaso parang ganyan rin experience ko. parang may tope.

switched to Petron unleaded. nawala and okay na cia since then. nung naging e10 ung petron unleaded, i switched to Petron XCS and upto now, no problem.

suggest you try switching and see if may improvement. if wala pa ren, dalhin mo sa CASA ulet since you can replicate the issue naman, madali nilang makikitang may problem.

hope maayos agad. hassle yan for a BN car.

If it's a problem, switch to a boutique gasoline (V-Power, Blaze).

yup, kasama na po sir niky yung E10 sa considerations ko, parang mas naging madumi kasi ang fuel ngayon compared before.

gusto ko sana mag-Blaze but mahal talaga hehe. next time I will try XCS though.

*TS - try 95+ octane rating fuel too.

I too am having doubts on the fuel ... BUT .. in comparison to my "other" cars ... this Vios is the only one exhibiting these symptoms ... while the other much older cars get along quite well.

I'll ask my wife to load up 95 RON gas and observe.

Newer cars need higher octane in general, as they run much leaner at low rpms (for better fuel economy) and are more sensitive to fuel quality, as a result. Could be the E10 from the stations you're buying from has been contaminated, has water (this is a problem with E10 in storage in a tropical country) or has gone bad. Switching to higher octane should help. Good luck!

ganito din nangyari before sa 1.3L new jazz namin even sa new altis, pag kinargahan ko ng unleaded shell or petron extra, maririnig mo ang tope, pero pag XCS wala ka maririnig na tope, kaya its better stick to 95RON gasoline or try seaoil 97RON extreme same price lang ng xcs, mas maganda hatak ng makina at same fuel consumption lang when im using XCS but the performance of sea oil extreme is a lot better than xcs

Probably got a bad load of gas.
