L300s sell like hotcakes to company fleets. We have four purchased within the past two years alone.

Toyota has the right vehicles, at the right time, for the right people. The Fortuner alone virtually killed the SUV category, costing around a million less than a Pajero. There's still no other new AUV to combat the innovative Innova. The Mazda 3 lacks a manual transmission to go nearer Altis sales, while the Mazda 6 needs some price reduction (1.3+M against 1.2+M for the standard Accord) so that more can appreciate its true worth.
On the other hand, I think the Lumina is a refaced Buick (probably Century), while others get a clone Holden Commodore. Just how is this supposed to be better than the Accord, Camry or 6? Sorry but GM still doesn't know how to play the game. Maybe their only renowned products now are the Corvette and Monaro. Known as the Pontiac GTO in North America, the latter is hailed for its awesome power and torque, great handling (can even be a drift car despite its huge size), and good pricing, but the great-looking Mustang is selling better even if it has less performance. The Corvette, though having the same performance as a Dodge Viper at a fraction of the cost, only caters basically to young bachelors (or those who think themselves as such). That aside, no other GM marque seems to be #1. Ford outshines Opel/Vauxhall in Europe, Oldsmobile was dead long ago, and Cadillac is still on its pursuit to be a worthy rival to BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, etc.

so the pajero still more than doubles the sales of its next closest competitor?
not bad for what is essentially a 10-year old design...

The figure probably refers to the combined sales of both Gen 2.5 (which they still produce and sell despite its age) and the new Gen 3 Pajero(s).

Well, if people still like the Pajero... why not? If Nissan had decided to keep on producing the old Exalta STA, they could've kept selling them. They cost the right price, had as much kit (and a better CD changer) as the Grandeur, and weren't burdened by all that extra chassis weight... in fact, they continued selling them for a while after the Grandeur came out, and the fact that they did NOT lower the price for these sell-out models is a testament to their popularity.
GM is in huge trouble both overseas and in America. They don't have all the right products, they're burdened with under-performing and non-performing marquees, and they're paying through the nose for labor disputes and union contracts.
Ford is likewise in a bad position financially, but at least most of its sub-units are in good health (Mazda, Volvo, Aston Martin), with new models and brisk sales. Ford's new cars are also doing very well.Last edited by niky; December 10th, 2005 at 03:23 PM.
