my tire's specs is 185/65/14.. and its due for replacement.
ive heard that the stock 14 inchers can handle as much as 195 even 205 mm.
what are the adverse effects of doing this?
for daily driving & occasional track use ngapala:D

Adverse effects? Higher gas consumption (if they're sports tires), maybe a bit slower (more drag)
If you're going for occassional track use, go for 15" rims and 195-205 / 50 tires... masyadong mataas yung sidewalls kung 60 - 14 yung tires mo... won't give you much grip. Best compromise size is 195-50-15 or 195-55-15, enough grip for occassional track-work, and still streetable.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
your 14" can handle a 195/60...
in the manual of my 323, it specificallly said so (if i wanted to upgrade it)...
Compute rolling radius: 185/65R14
185x.65= 120.25
14/2=7x25.4= 177.8
120.25+177.8=298.05
Rolling radius= 298.05mm
Use same formula with alternative sizes and try to stay as close as possible to orig spec of total rolling radius (+ or - 6mm).
If too big you may lose torque on gearing which is bad for track use but ok for hiway.

jackaroo, my tire size is 185x65xR13 before i swap it with R16. is this okay? salamat..
thanks for the inputs guys..
jackaroo,
ive tried to compute the rolling radius using 195/60/14 as sample/ from your post,
185x.65= 120.25
14/2=7x25.4= 177.8
120.25+177.8=298.05
Rolling radius= 298.05mm
185 is the tire section width,
.65 is the aspect ratio,
14 is the rim diameter,
whats 25.4?
benchph1
The 25.4 is the conversion to mm from inches so we get a figure that's all in mm.
jaycv
The RR for 185/65R13 tire is 285.35
The RR for 195/50R16 tire is 300.7 so the difference is 15.35mm- too big since its more than an inch tall when you double the radius.
A closer size to orig spec is 195/45R16.
jackaroo,
uh pardon me medyo slow ata ako ngayon :bwahaha:
can you compute the rolling radius for me using 195/60/14 as basis?
thanks![]()
benchph1
The RR of a 195/60R14 is 294.8mm so a bit smaller than orig but acceptable.
Can also use 205/60R14 with RR of 300.8mm which is larger by only 2.8mm.
jackaroo, salamat bro. still have question f u dont mind, any negative effects if have this bigger tire?
jaycv,
A bigger tire will make your gearing taller so less torque for acceleration but better fuel mileage on long trips. Will also affect the accuracy of your speedometer/ odometer.
If the car is used for daily driving, i would not go above a 1 inch increase over stock tires.
guys what about 185/55/15. Im upgrading to 16" rims and prbably 45's or 50's depending on stance and look. What do u think should be the correct tire size? Thanks hope u guys can help
alanranch
RR for 185/55R15 is 292.25
RR of a 205/45R16 is 295.45
A 50 series tire will be too tall vs orig spec.
