Power Steering leak!

Hi po mga sirs!

Just want to seek your advise. It seems that my car has leak from the power steering. Bale just yesterday i had oil change in Petron fairview. Just when it was brought up by the hydraulics, may nakita akong unusual na basa sa may left wheel/suspension. I touched it myself and it was oil. So i asked the mechanic if this was normal and he said baka may tagas nga yung power steering ko. He suggested that to isolate the problem i need to have an underwash, only then can they find out where the leak is coming from.

Anyway, hingi lang sana ako ng payo sainyo since i'm not very knowledgeable pagdating sa auto... just really basic stuff. Ano kaya ang maaring cause neto? Any experience you can share?

My car is a 95 galant VR4 by the way.

Nag pa-underwash ka sir? Ano sabi nila? It could be anything lalo na nagpachange oil ka kasi naglabas and naglagay sila ng langis.. kaya niya pinapalinis para malaman kung natuluaan lang ba yan or talagang may tagas.. kung machecheck nyo ung oil na nahawakan nyo try to determine ung viscosity nya if similar ba sha sa engine oil/brake fluid/atf..

Hindi pa sir. May lakad din ako kasi nun kaya pinagpaliban ko muna. Hindi ko sigurado kung ano ung viscosity nya yo approximate. Pero i remember hindi sha ganun kalapot. Actually parang atf fluid nga.

check mo rin mga hose kung may signs ng wetness. lalo na yung mga galing sa reservoir.

easiest way to do that is to check your PS fluid reservoir. tignan mo kung bawas na.

Pwedeng hose. Pero pwede din na doon mismo sa gearbox ang problema dahil baka bumigay mga oil seals at o-ring nun.

sa akin may leak na din power steering...
normal na yata yan para sa mga lumang kotse natin...
dahil sa hose yan.. sa akin binabalewala ko nalang yan.
konti lang naman tagas. ginagawa ko nililinis ko nalang ng running
water yung oil na tumagas para hindi makasira ng ibang pyesa
then dagdag nalang ng steering fluid konti lang naman leak..

pero kung hindi ka kampante e di pagawa mo nalang. madali lang sa mekaniko yan basta may datung

Ah ok. Paayos ko naman yan probably this weekend. Hindi naman sya nakakacompromise sa safety if i drive it for a couple more days?

nope, hindi naman. make sure lang na may laman yung reservoir mo.

May masisira lang kung mauubusan ng langis.. while waiting for a couple of more days punasan mo ung leak tapos bukas check mo if babalik pa or wala na.. drive safe!

Pa add din mga sir tsikot..tsek modin oil gauge kung bumaba sa deep stick nya. kung hindi naman baka nga natuluan o awas lang yaan siguro. tsek mo nga din yung tagas kung langis ba o fluid. pag langis iba pakiramdam at pag fluid iba din e. kung patuloy na nag li leak look for better mechanic yung dika niloloko.

as long as constantly nilalagyan mo ng fluid reservoir mo sir. by the way nung bumili ako ps fluid inabot sakin atf fluid, yun ba din yun?? hahaha

May bilihan ng hose around Sucat road and they will replace it for just 250php + labor. malapit siya sa PATTS

No sir. At the rate you described that your pump is leaking, it will take weeks before ma-ubusan ng fluid. Pag na ubusan ng fluid, mag-harden yung steering parang manual.

Dinala ko sa shell kanina for tune up tas pinakita ko narin ung leak. Nung tinaas nung mekaniko at tinignan nya sabi nya rack and pinion daw ang may tama. Pero sabi nya pwede pa naman daw dahil konti lang naman ang tagas..although kelangan palitan rin sooner.

Rack and Pinion can be overhauled using a repair kit. not necessary need to be replaced.

Just an update guys brought this to 3 mechanics. 2 says repair kit will do... the other suggests that repair kit will just fix it for the time being and eventually break down again. 'Sayang' lang daw pera kung aayusin lang ulet after a while. He strongly suggests to have the assembly replaced as this will serve me plenty more miles along the way. (Trusted mechanic to by the way and has good reputation as a mechanic... the other 2 are from banawe freelancer and petron mechanic).

Now i know it will all boil down to your wallet. But in case i opt to replaced the whole assembly, is it a more practical choice ba talaga than to just get it done with the repair kit?
