Ganito yan, di mo masasabi kung repair lang or whole assembly papalitan hangang hindi naibaba and rack and pinion mo.
Hi doc! Bale the repair kit ranges from 6-8.5k with labor na. Yung brand new rack and pinion assembly hindi ko pa alam kasi wala pako makita (hirap pala hanapin nun haha)

Thanks for the input vvti! The mechanic is suggesting nga na kahit taiwan, good enough na un. But then tama ka nga na kailangan talaga ibaba yung assembly.

same at my case bro. nung pina tsek ko sa mekaniko ko sa halip na i repair e pinapalitan yung power steering assembly, hose, reservior. medyo madugo sa presyo pero worth naman at matagl din nga gamit. for more safety and convenience hindi baleng gumastos ng malaki pero matagalan din naman gamit. ganiyan ata talaga basta may edad na ang ating mga sasakyan.![]()
Having mine fixed na finally this week. Sasabay ko na sa hilamos.hehe
Hindi ko pa sure kung ano gagawin ng mekaniko but from his observation (i.e. leak only occurs when the car is lifted) ay repair kit lang daw yun. Costs would be around 5k.
Hindi kasi malalaman until mababa ung assembly eh.

Anyway share ko lang din, yung other mechanic was also able to find a taiwan replacement. 25k! Wow! But then come to think of it, i have an office mate who has his mercedes rack and pinion assembly (orig) quoted for 107k. Deym!

^ We just had the rack and pinion overhauled in our 1994 Galant V6 before. Came out fine. Cruven did the job if i recall correctly.
Magkano inabot mo vinj? Sobrang lapit ko lng sa cruven fairview. As in kayang lakarin. I'm thinking of getting polyurethane byshings nga sa kanila eh. :D

napakabit mo na yung taiwan replacement rack and pinion?
i had an experience before with my previous ride na nagkaron ng leak ang rack and pinion, had it checked, and nakitang taiwan lang yung nakakabit, nagtanong ako ng original seals for the said assembly, meron, pero hindi swak, wala pala ako makikitaan ng replacement seal para dun. so nagsurplus nalang ako, nakakuha ako, i ask if they are willing to trade my taiwan r&p for a discount sa surplus. ayaw nila, andami daw nilang ganun, naktengga lang sa kanila. mahirapan din daw sila makakuha ng repair kit sa mga taiwan r&p and hindi nila mabenta din.
Ayun ibinababa pa ngayon bro. I'm betting na repair kit lang ang kelangan since kakapiranggot lang na leak ang meron. But i'm keeping my fingers crossed.hehe
So hindi pala advisable ang taiwan replacement pala because of fitting issues? I guess orig surplus is the way to go if ever kelangan palitan na ang assembly.

Hello all,
I have had problems with power steering fluid leak. I have had the following repairs done:
1. Replace high pressure hose
2. Replace low pressure hose
3. Fixed rack and pinion leak with the repair kit.
This are my questions after all those repairs.
1. Are there other possible source of leaks like the power steering pump itself or steering column?
2. After my rack and pinion was fixed, I heard a humming sound that sometimes comes up. Sounds like it comes from my left front tire but I can feel the vibration on my clutch pedal. Any idea what is the cause? Could my mechanic have done something that would cause the sound?(like remove the suspension assembly on my left tire in the process of fixing the rack and pinion and incorrectly reinstalling it)
3. Had an underwash done and and the sound lessened to a tolerable level and transferred to the right side. Is this normal?
Thanks

Is it a humming sound or more like a low growling sound under the hood?
1. check for any leaks on the ground. try to put a newspaper underneath the car right after you park. if there's leak you should be able to trace it.
Just to share my experience. last 2012 my crosswind had a leak, just few drops in a day. if i remember correctly maybe a teaspoon a day. Worried ako so nag research ako , i know its
expensive to repair. what i did was to buy this product cyclo power steering stop leak. poured
one 12oz bottle and that time i did replaced my tires, i felt the old tires are putting more 'stress'
on my power steering ( Uneven wear). what happened was the leak stopped. i don't know if its
due to cyclo or when i had my tires replaced and aligned.
until now it did not leak i can only see moisture at the bottom of the gearbox. its still leaks but
not enough to drop on the ground on my garage maybe on the streets. until now i never add fluid to the reservoir. i might buy again
and replace the old fluid. its been 3 years since i put cyclo.
But still i think its best to have it repaired, but make sure to use original repair kit or good replacement and finding an expert mechanic.
thank you
