What are your opinions regarding recapping of tires?

I'm planning to place the recapped tires sa rear and newer tires sa front.

Btw, this is for my taxi business.

    Thanks in advance.

imho, quite dangerous specially during high speeds. for one, the rubber gets thinned just to accomodate the re-threads.

why not just buy a brand new cheap tire?

+ 1 kay Vlad. Baka tumatakbo taxi mo bigla na lang matanggal ang recapped portion ng tires. Why not consider cheap tires bro? Medyo delikado IMHO ang recapped.

Hindi reliable ang mga recapped tires or even second hand tires, saw one incident where the rear right recapped tires of a speeding L300 (hindi yung van) suddenly disintegrated or natuklap.

Buti na lang hindi nag ben tumbling but it almost did, and if another car was near it, im sure it would have been a different story. Yung rear fender yata ang nadamaged.

That near accident made me realize na hindi nga pala talaga wise na isusugal mo ang buhay mo dahil lang sa mga second hand or recapped tires.

I brought Brand New GT Champiro as replacement for my worn out tires. Mura sya relatively pero mahal pa rin for an ordinary employee like me pero at least kampanti ako.

BTW, it happend in a Panabo city 4 lane highway (davao del norte).

forget the option of recapping the old tires it will give you headache lang. sinubukan ko na ito with my Father's jeepney, akala ko tatagal ang recap tires sa jeep since our jeep is a very old model with C-240engine at hindi na makakatakbo ng more than 60kph, 1 month lang natuklap na ang gulong during sa byahe, mabuti na lang no one hurt sa mga passenger.

bumili na lang ako ng new tire made in china for 2k each so far okay pa naman hanggang ngayon.

Hindi naman kaya sa quality control ang problema ng recapping?

Kasi sa US, its encouraged that US govt vehicles use recapped tires. AFAIK, this also applies to their multi million dollar fighter planes.

From what I know, heavy duty truck tires and tires used for construction equipment are designed to be rethreaded.

I just don't know the quality of rethreads in the Phils. Some may be good and other might be crap.

I suggest you look up Bandag in the yellow pages and give them a call. See if it makes sense economically and safety wise. I mean if the cost of recapping is close to that of buying new then why bother. Although, an advantage of rethreading is its less harmfull to the enviorment.

okay ang recapping for trucks and heavy equipment tires..sobrang mahal kasi kung bibili lagi ng brand new.. and sa trucks.. laging tumatakbo yan malayuan compared to private cars or taxi cabs.

so far..wala pa naman kaming problem sa mga recapped tires ng mga truck namin. as for passenger cars and light trucks.. go for brand new tires.. di naman malayo ang matitipid mo.

RE-GROOVE po ang right term and not RE-THREAD...

Dati meron dito sa amin Las Pinas factory ng gulong ng re-capping... VacPhil ang pangalan pero sarado na.. my father used to have his tires for his jeepney to be recapped there..mga 1980 pa yun but i'm sure ok naman ang quality kasi everyday gamit nya yung jeep and never naman kami nadisgrasya..

they only accept tire for recapping yung mga nylon tires lang...yung brand new tires once na ma-upod eh once lang sya pwede re-cap and after that discard na talaga yung tire

Pagnarunning flat yung brand new, goodbye 14k.
