i'm not sure if there is anything that can be done. current generation of a/t vehicles momentarily curtain power to unload the tranny so that smoother shifts can be achieved. what i do when i drive an a/t is at the point where the tranny will shift, i ease up on the accelerator. there's less 'shock' to almost none if you get it right. with the same technique, you can also 'trick' the tranny into changing gear at your desired shift points. you just have to practice it though.

seednie: in most cases there shouldn't be any, try changing your ATF first, it might be overdue.

On a side note, gen6 and 7 AT galants are notorious for AT breakdowns around the world.

    sir,
check the atf level. anything below or above the required level will result in shift shock

    seednie,
it has a level indicator located at the bottom end of the dip stick.
my estimate is around 3 liters of atf. try using dexron III.
also check the filter of the transmission. i am not sure if it is the disposable type or the reusable type. clean/replace the filter too.
