    mga brus, since most of the power steering problem threads here ay tungkol sa PS pump and/or hoses, gumawa na lang ako thread for rack and pinion problems. (mods, paki merge na lang kung meron na pala ganito)

    anyway i need expert advice on my wife's civic esi power steering problem. may leak siya at sure ako na ndi sa hose kaya pinababa ko yung buong gearbox assembly para mainspect.

    eto yung observation ko at nung mekaniko

    1.) dun sa part ng steering rack na may ngipin (gears), merong "tama" as evidenced by varying colors of affected part. ndi na shiny as compared dun sa ibang part ng rack,

    2.) at the opposite end, sabi ng mekaniko meron din daw scoring or scratch marks. the scratch marks look natural and ndi siya nagresulta sa pagkawala ng kinang nung steering rack as compared to obervation 1.

    ang recommendation ng mekaniko is to replace the whole assembly instead of repairing since ndi naman daw guaranteed na mawawala ang leak kung may tama na nag steering rack.

    mejo nag aalangan ako kasi palagay ko yung scoring marks sa may gear part is not an issue since dun sa tapat ng gears, therefore ndi siya sakop ng oil seal ang oil rings. yung marks sa opposite end sa palagay ko ay natural marks lang at ndi talaga deep scoring marks. (pinicturan ko kaso ndi naman kita dahil makintab ang bakal). ngayon pinababaklas ko yung steering rack para mainspect yung kabuuan niya.

    now i need expert opinion on this. san ba makakmura? mangaganak kasi si misis in a few months kaya nagtitipid :D

    at san makakaisgurado? repair or palit? how about cost?

    based sa nakita ko kanina dun sa buong steering rack, yung part sa may gears (back side) ng rack lang ang may konting marks. the rest is mukang ok pa pero i am leaning towards buying the whole assembly na lang ng nung nasa pic. surplus lang.

    any idea where to buy. specific surplus shop in evangelista?

    estimated cost?

    medyo off topic sir.. pero yung pang mb100 na bnew steering rack is 14t-16t, surplus is 7t-9t, depende sa source. sabi kapag japanese car daw mas mura.. IMO mas nirerecomend ng ibang mga shop ang bago na steering rack sir kasi may possibility na may tama din yung mabibiling surplus, buti kung magbibigay ng guarantee yung bibilhan mo ng surplus.. meron daw kasi ibang surplus na hindi visible ang damage..

    funkgruvn, yung sa iyo steering rack lang pinalitan? ndi yung buong assembly?

    kung surplus kasi, ang balak ko bilihin is yung buo na. isasalpak na lang.

    san ka bumili nung steering rack na brand new? kung may contact number ka po din para makapag inquire ako.

    you can have the rack built up naman kahit may gasgas. dapat alam ng mechanic mo yun.

    pre ngkproblema n din ako ng ganyan ung marks n npasin ko mkhang tama lang wear n tear ng shaft shinny or dull ang tngin ko hindi nman ata gas2 n ukit, for me buy ako 2 bearing nyan at un 3 or 4 oilseal sa caloocan wala pa sa half ng price ng repair kit nyan na npkamahal hehehe
    Take note lang when buying oil seal same type dapat (hydraulic type) o kya bangitin muna na png pwerstering. pinoy kc pgndnig pwerstring mmhalan k kgad hehehe

    update: got the car yesterday at sabi ng mekaniko wala na daw tulo. will observe for a fwe days kung wala na nga leak.

    but the problem now is maganit naman yung steering. as in hard steering. ibalik ko sa kanya kasi baa napahigpit yung isang nut dun sa gearbox. i hope dun lang ang problema.

    buti naayos yung sayo sir.. bakit kaya yung sa kin minsan malakas yung tulo, minsan naman halos walang tulo ng fluid?

    dati ganun din sa amin. minsan malakas minsan halos walang tagas. kaso biglang consistently malakas siya kaya pinaayos na namin.

    ang problema naman ngayon ay very hard ang steering even after adjusting the rack guide. i am thinking about the PS pump (which has been service some 2 tears ago) or the valve body. haayyy....

    paano ma check kung nagana pa yung PS pump?
