October 5th, 2009 08:29 PM #442Hey all tsikoteers.
Thinking of changing my stock 205/55/R16 rims/tires to either:
a) 215/45/R17
b) 225/45/R17
Total noob at this - so:
a) Which tire is cheaper? (Common logic says that choice A is cheaper but what the hell.)
b) Which tire will provide better road comfort? (Sound/Comfort closer to that of the 16s?)
c) Is there a big difference in ride quality going from 16s to 17s?
d) Which brand/type of tires would fit the bill? (maybe like a shortlist?)
e) Where's a good place to get them in the metro?
Thanks in advance. Wala akong alam sa goma :/

chepear yung 215/45r17 because wider yung 224/45r17. logic is, more rubber on it.
not on those two will match the comfort and road sound specs between the 16" tires and 17" low profile tires. however, i think, the 215/45r17 will be closer to the 16's of yours
ride quality? hell on 17's shoes with low profile tires!!! better of with 16's on 55 series tires in ride quality.. ride quality means comfort? right?
canvass your shoes on wherever you are near of. example places are. banawe and west ave. on quezon city, evangelista on makati, never been there. and for cheap and affordable, blumentritt on manila.
san pa ba meron? eto lang mga naiisip ko eh

IMHO, at least a series 50 tires should be in use for a daily driven car given our Philippine road conditions.

October 5th, 2009 09:29 PM #446Problem is, 2xx/50/R17 tires are hard to come by, and will probably screw up some alignments while doing so.
I think 17s are decent din naman, considering 2.0 Civics/Imprezas come with 17s and there are no complaints naman yata with the ride being that bad.
Any decent tires that will help mitigate the "harshness" of the 17" rims? I know for a fact that the 205/55/R16 bridgestone turanza ER30s sucked bad in terms of muffling road noise.

On my old car, I was riding on 225/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza GIIIs on lowering springs. To be honest, I found the ride to be much better compared to stock (too soft/floaty for my tastes) and when i was on 205/55/16 (same tire brand) on both stock and lowered suspension.
Not too sure if having a mid-sized car had anything to do with it (bigger body, longer wheelbase, etc.)

October 5th, 2009 11:03 PM #449actually mas closer ang overall diameter ng 225/45-17 sa 205/55-16 kaysa sa 215/45-17. less prone ka pa sa benkong sa 225/45. hth

Pareho tayo bro. I'm itching to upgrade to 17s on 225/45/17 rubber, then Tein H.Tech + Modulo MMC kit. Nagpipigil lang talaga kasi maraming iba pang priorities.
BTTT, for me, I always take note of the thickness of the rubber rather than the overall diameter compared to stock/actual speedometer reading.
Somewhat expected from a rushed car from a first time carmaker
