April 17th, 2025 03:29 AM #3Completely lost its identity. Outback used to be the off-road wagon: a lifted Legacy. Now it's just another crossover SUV.

April 30th, 2025 07:20 PM #5In general out of proportion ang Subaru SUV front overhang.

April 30th, 2025 07:26 PM #6It's because of the AWD, the longitudinal orientation of the engine and the way the transmission is built.
The engine has to sit in front of the transmission, which has output shafts aligned with the front wheels.
With BRZ the engine can be further back because it's RWD only.
Illustration showing why the engine sits in front of the front axle line.

May 1st, 2025 07:50 PM #10I guess technically they can do that by using a transfer case that attaches to the output shaft at the back of the transmission and have a separately housed front diff, but it'll defeat the main advantage of having a boxer engine that the center of gravity is very low.
Anyways here's the back part of the Porsche 996 shell and it's a very similar configuration to a Subaru's front end:
Are mandatory seatbelts, and minimum brightness standards for exterior lighting also woke elements?
