my strada is 3.5 years old, 2006 model - odo is tripping at 80K already, relatively low for me but, what the heck.... any ways regarding the issue on engine treatments, and flushing, etc....

• engine flushing before change oils - a big no no!!! the flushing agent is actually run through the entire engine for a few minutes and then drained again, what this does is that it cleans the entire engine and everything in it up to every nook and cranny that it can get into. why is this bad? - well removing the very fine layer of oil that is coating the metal surfaces of the engine internals leaves you with - metal to metal contact, meaning more friction, meaning faster engine component wear. the usual retort to this, "we immediately put the new oil into the engine anyway".. so what? the new oil stays in teh oil pan/crank case until the engine is started again and the oil pump circulates the oil inside the engine again.... so what is coating the components during the first few seconds of the run in time? nothing!! sure it's just a few seconds, but a lot of few seconds adds up to a lot of few minutes which adds to a lot of pesos in the long run....

- so if you're still using the same old oil, shun the flushing fluids. don't waste your money and kill your engine at the same time... if you plan on changing oil brand/type, it doesn't matter. just let it drain longer.

• air cleaner replacement - there's alot of talk regarding when to replace your air cleaner - i haven't replaced mine, and i go to some of teh most ridiculously dusty places.... just make sore you properly clean your filter with compressed air every so often. or better yet, inest in the washable air cleaners"K&N". save the long run cost of buying the disposable and get one which will last the life of your vehicle.
• fuel filter - again a lot of people are giving their own opinions egarding when to replace - my personal opinion - replace when you feel that there is a loss of power, or if you go station hopping.
• differential oils - why change when there's nothing wrong with it? the only time you change your diff. oil is when it has been contaminated by water - and there is no way that a city driven vehicle will get water into the diffs ubless na ondoy yun!!! actually kahit nga na ondoy hindi pa din pinapasok eh.....

i know i will get a lot of flack for this, but bear in mind that these are just my opinions, you may believe me or not, it's your call. but bear in mind i've been driving diesels all my driving life and i deal with diesel engines in my life of work..

hope this helps!!

Got this on my notes Professor!

i forgot to add regarding the add-on engine treatment....

actually there is a lot of debate regarding the engine treatment and fuel additive... here's my take on this:

• fuel additive - i don't think there's really any need for that, our engines are rated to be i think euroII compliant, so our emissions are supposedly within international standards. but then again the fuel that we are currently using here still has a ridiculously high sulfur content, i think its 300ppm higher than euro countries(but they do have the highest emission standards and restrictions anyway). so i think adding the fuel add-mix, is just throwing money away, unless the add-mix can remove the or lessen the sulfur content of our diesel fuel, then i can start considering using them. Plus bear in mind that our engines are CRDI - common rail direct injection. unless it is clearly stated in the packaging of the add-mix that it is crdi friendly, i'd stay away from it.
• oil mix - what's the point? you are using synthetic right? if not, it's still okay... the quality of engine oils has increased considerably over the years and there have been a lot of additions to the formulation of the oil that we are using now. if you're still using mineral - it's okay, just be vigilant and religious with your oil change interval every 5K, don't scrimp on the oil and filter. if you're using synth, much better!! some synth blends are rated to go 25K or even higher in between changes but don't push your luck. the longest you can go especially with diesel is 15k to make sure that the oil is not too contaminated... that's why the new oil which is clear comes out black when you drain, it's full of carbon and other contaminants.
• i've posted it here countless times, and again i would just like to remind everyone that "NEVER EVER MIX AND MATCH YOUR OIL!!!" try to stick to one brand and formulation!! please!!!!

if i remember correctly, sa Diamond Valle Verde, they give you a list of things they will do and estimate cost, so prior to the service, you would already know what you will be paying and if you want it or not.

oo nga bro....may binibigay din naman dun sa malapit samin....pero minsan kasi may SA na mapilit pag dun ako natatapat medyo nakaka tamad ng makipag argue so I just did it one time tapos they just talked to my hand the following time and crossed out the things that I don't want to be done...hehe.......but the thing is nung minsan mag pa change oil ako sakanila natapat na tinanong ako kung gusto ko mag engine flush...so sabi ko inde na hehe nakaramdam naman siguro na kahit papano may alam ako hehe....pero one things is clear, money maker lang talaga yung engine flush na yan.....kasi yung iba namang customers nila basta nakita na andun na...syempre larga nalang ng larga wala ng tanong tanong...hehe

Mga Sirs!!

Magpapa-5k km PMS na po ako. I've been backreading and it seems na kailangan ko ulit ng 9L of engine oil? Tama po ba? Clarify ko na din. Since 9L ang kelangan, does this mean na papalitan yung oil ng engine? Or does the term "change oil" mean change in oil brand? :D

basically put, its literally just changing your oil.... if your engine is the 3.2L then it's capacity is approx 9ltrs, if its the 2.5L then cap is around 8ltrs
