Hi nw27, I showed your video to my wife.

diving lessons are offered sa mga accredited PADI dive shops here in Manila. The nearest I know is in project 4, although meron din sa san juan and makati. for the lessons, 10-15k ang usual fee, included na dun ang use ng diving gear. complete set of gears will usually cost you from 30k up depending sa brand ng gear.

How much more kung may mga nakita tayong special and rare marine flora and fauna?

Imagine...a black tip reef shark scurrying the sea bed while you float above it. Then a manta ray happens to hover over you creating a beautiful eclipse underwater. Later on, a hawksbill turtle swims beside you as you enjoy the serene feeling of floating in space...

It's a shame to hear what we as stewards of the earth are doing to the sea in the name of progress and survival.

Hehehehehe.

my diving instructor (Mr. Jacinto Cruzet) charges 10,500 per person for the license and the training. He does freelance teaching and is not tied to any diving school. Usually, scubaworld and naui charges around 12k-13k. he has been a DI for more than twelve years now.

As for the schedule (how long you will take up the course), he will adjust to your schedule. He can go to your place or wherever mutually convenient for the lessons/theoretical discussions. Kami sa office lang kami nag theoretical (five sessions at 2 hours per session after office hours, if you have lots of free time during the day, you can finish the theories in 1 day). We read the books included and we watched the videos. Tapos he will discuss using powerpoint. For the swimming pool exercises, dito kami sa may jp rizal, makati nag pool sessions (2 nights din), then check out dive is sa mga shipwrecks sa Subic one weekend. so mga two (2) weeks namin kinuha. He was very thorough and professional from the very beginning and until the end. Always on the safe side to the point na medyo na-baby kami.

Yung gear that you will need during the lessons pwede niyang ipahiram sa inyo. As to the cost sa rentals ng equipment, very minimal and madali nang pag-usapan yun. After you get certified as a diver, pwede ka pa niyang samahan sa mga dive shops in metro manila to find the perfect set of equipment for you.

additional cost not covered by the Php10,500 is yun na nga yung rentals, then yung costs pag nag check-out dive na sa subic. expenses for overnight accomodation, then yung charges per dive (air/tanks, boat, weightbelt, etc.) would amount to around 2,500 per person.

once you get certified, bili na ng basic gear (wetsuit, booties, fins, mask) which will cost you around 7k-10k.
then ipon ka na for the bcd and regulator set which will cost around 25k-40k.

a day of diving in anilao will cost you around 1k-2k which includes boat, air, buffet lunch, fuel, equipment rental.

It is not cheap to invest and start sa diving pero in the long run, sobrang sulit. sama-sama pa tayo!

You could get a set of mask, snorkel, fins at around 2k lang ata or less pa nga as from what I remember in my skin diving elective class dati (cerified diver na ako nun --- I just cant get myself out of water that long kaya kinuha ko yun hehehe) Yung booties optional naman. Kasi kung parati naman boat dive ang trip mo, then no need for booties and booty-type fins (tama ba tawag nun? hehehehe) you could get pocket-type fins (which are much cheaper by the way). Pero kung gusto mong maging versatile at balak mong mag-shore entry dives din, then kuha ka ng booties and booty-type fins.

There are a lot of stuff that you could buy second hand kung tight ang budget. Just ask the divers na kakilala mo para matulungan kang pumili. Ako personally, yung equipment mo na mask, snorkel, fins (and booties if ever) and regulator ang pinaka-importante na unahin. Pero in the long run, if you are after protection from the elements like sun and whatever you may get into contact with underwater, then by all means kuha ka na. Marami namang mura at marami ding mahal (from brands like aquamundo to brands like henderson). Nung nagstart ako mag-dive di ako nagwewet-suit. Shorts and shirt lang. Nung nag-rescue diver course nalang ata ako nagwet-suit. Everything else, you could rent it out muna. Nothing beats having your own equipment to maximize confidence underwater but it doesn't mean that you can't dive if you don't have your own.

I would rather say that it'll be beter to invest that much on your breathing apparatus (or in diver's terms: ang regulator). It's true that it is definitely not cheap to invest in diving, but you know that once you buy your equipment, it will last for a long time. Very long long time.

I had my equipment since 1998 or 1997. So far oks naman sila. Yung pinalitan ko lang ay yung aking booties, mask at snorkel dahil sobrang luma na yung mask and snorkel ko nung time na yun (parang kasing tanda ko lang yung mask na yun dati, hand me down from my dad pa ata yun, so siguro mas matanda pa saken hehehe). Yung booties, well, bata pa ako nun, so lumalaki pa ang paa ko hehehehe. Maintenance is key as with any equipment.

Rest assured, parang kotse lang yan. Pag well-maintained (meaning regular checkup and part replacements like o-ring etc.) hindi ka naman magkakaproblema. Not unless kung mabagsakan ng tanke ang regulator mo or matusok ng kutsilyo ang BCD (Buoyancy Compensating Device a.k.a. high tech salbabida) mo. Hehehehehe.

hehehehe. I've been wanting to dive palawan ever since I got here. Sorry ha pero I had a chance to swim with black tips as well. I could remember two black tips heading towards me that time.

Wala pang nakikitang hawksbill. hehehe.

Then on a separate occasion I've seen a manta pass by on top sa Subic and stingrays large and small sa Jeddah and Anilao. Ever since nun wala na ata.

Butanding! Gusto kong makita! hehehehe. Saya nun!
