NELSON MANDELA, THE BOXER WHO STOPPED APARTHEID

Former South African President Nelson Mandela, the world's famous anti-apartheid revolutionary was a boxer and started joining the sport of fist fighting in 1936 at the Fort Hare University. He was able to balance his study in Bachelor of Arts with Christian beliefs and Bible studies along side his interest in boxing.

He was also into long distance running and ballroom dancing. As a fitness buff, he spent his free time in the gym lifting some weights. When he studied law at the University of Whitwatersrand, he was the only native African student. He fought the overwhelming racism and blatant discrimination against his color. But for the anti-apartheid leader, his engagement to boxing is just to escape the hardships of fighting racism.

Champion Boxers predict Pacquiao vs. Mayweather

Jose Morales (Father of Erik Morales): "Pacquiao is very sharp, throws many accurate punches and keeps the pressure on his opponents. That’s why he will win. The punch of Manny Pacquiao can kill him [Mayweather] very easily. It can put him down very easily. So he cannot handle that."

Andrew Golota: "Pacquiao is too much for him. Too much. He beats him easy. Easy. Easy. Mayweather was a great fighter when he was a super featherweight but he’s too small now. Pacquiao is so fast. He throws so many punches. Cotto is fast but Pacquiao made him look slow. Pacquiao is something else."

Nacho Beristain: ""It’s a very good, important fight but that fight should not happen. Because I believe Pacquiao will beat Mayweather. You’re gonna take away the glory that has made Mayweather these past years. Mayweather’s style – when he fights someone that pressures him and throws a lot of punches – he just beats him up. It won’t be an easy fight but Pacquiao will win the fight. Pacquiao will definitely win."

Miguel Cotto: "I don't know. They have to prepare themselves well. I don't know."

Tomasz Adamnek: "Mayweather is a smart, wonderful fighter. Pacquiao is a tough guy but Mayweather has a good defense and he's smart."

Chuck Wepner: "Oh wow, I love Pacquiao. Unfortunately I think Mayweather, who I think is a great fighter...now I think Pacquiao might win. Four or five years ago I don't think anybody could have beaten Mayweather. Pacquiao is younger, he hasn't been laid off. This could be to his advantage."

Arthur Abraham: "Mayweather. He's the number one fighter in the world." Andre Dirrell: "I'll go with the undefeated. I always go with the undefeated. Mayweather is an accurate puncher. I respect Pacquiao a lot. It's gonna be a hard fight. I respect Pacquiao like hell. But he leaves himself open. Floyd's an accurate, accurate puncher. He's gonna study that."

Paul Williams: "I respect what Mayweather's been doing but Pacquiao throws a lot of punches.. I feel like Pacquiao will get him."

Jorge Arce: "Mayweather would win that fight. He's too strong, very fast, intelligent, his movement. And he's such a great counterpuncher. I think Mayweather would be perfect for him."

Carl Froch: "Mayweather. He's too technically proficient. His defense is too good. I can't see Pacquiao doing anything with him. He'll frustrate Pacquiao, then he'll break him down. Then he'll beat him. He'll either outpoint him or stop him."

Juan Manuel Lopez: "Pacquiao. Pacquiao has the style which I feel he can beat Mayweather with. But Mayweather is Mayweather. He has a great style as well. So it's really a toss-up fight in my eyes."

Wladimir Klitschko: "I'll go for Pac Man. With no reason why, I guess I like him more. Otherwise it's 50-50."

Mikkel Kessler: "It would be a great fight. But I think Pacquiao would win it. Because he's a fast guy, he has fast hands."

Aaron Pryor: "I like Pac Man. Because he throws a lot of punches and he's giving it his all. I love Mayweather - he proves himself over and over and over again. I just want him to prove himself one more time - for me. For me to be on his side he gotta beat the best. And Pac Man is one of the best. Then I'll say Yay. I like Pac Man. I like Pac Man in the fight. I think Pac Man throws a lot of punches and I don't think Mayweather is gonna be equipped to handle it. That's just how I feel. But he's proven himself so many times. But that's what the fight game is about - every time you fight - prove yourself. I had eleven world title fights. Each time I fought one of those title fights it was about proving myself."

FIGHT FANS WALK OUT ON BORING RIGONDEAUX WIN

Fight fans walked out of a boring WBO/WBA super bantamweight title fight of former two-time Cubal Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Boxing insider reported that after an exciting, action-packed battle between James Kirkland and Golen Tapia, the Rigondeaux title defense against Joseph Agbeko was “an absolute bore.”

Rigondeaux survived an early body attack by Agbeko in round one and did nothing after that connecting with only one punch in round five to the utter dismay of fight fans.

Rigondeaux who score a stunning twelve round unanimous decision over 2012 “Fighter of the Year” Nonito Donaire last November, totally outboxed Agbeko to score a 120-108 shutout on the scorecards of all three judges.

William Holmes of Boxing Insider reported that “people began to leave the arena in the middle of Rigondeaux’s bout as it offered very little excitement. Agbeko wasn’t doing much to try and apply the pressure or even win the fight, he basically just stood there and moved his head in an effort to avoid Rigondeaux’s jabs and quick left crosses. There was nothing exciting to report in this fight.”

Donaire wanted a rematch against Rigo.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER NOT CONVINCED MANNY PACQUIAO IS READY FOR A MEGA-FIGHT: "HE'S 1 AND 2 IN HIS LAST 3"

"Where we stand is this, Pacquiao is 1 and 2 in his last 3 fights. That's where we stand...Juan Manuel Marquez, a guy...when I took a little bit of time off, I took a 2-year vacation off, came back and fought Marquez, beat him, unanimous, easy decision; I guess Pacquiao and Marquez fought 3 or 4 times. It's obvious he couldn't get it done right the first time," stated undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather, who recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of a potential clash with Manny Pacquiao. As far as Mayweather is concerned, Pacquiao's lopsided unanimous decision victory over Brandon Rios isn't enough to convince him that the multi-division world champion is fully recovered and ready to face the best fighter in the world.

READ WBC FINE PRINT ON FLOYD MAYWEATHER-MANNY PACQUIAO

TIME FOR FLOYD TO “MAN UP”
San Francisco, CA- The relationship between the World Boxing Council and Floyd Mayweather is a bit involved. First up, Mayweather claims to pay no “sanctioning fees” to the Mexico City based group while other WBC titleholders forgo either 2% of their purse or a number stipulated for them to don the green belt. That is something I can understand and yet don’t. If the WBC gives Floyd a “free” belt, why shouldn’t every other champ be afforded a the same?

    REAL WBC STANCE ON FLOYD-PAC?
Alright, I can see this ship sailing in different directions. Will Floyd end up telling the WBC to take their belt and shove it? Not just yet as the WBC clarified things in a press release. “The new ratings have been released with Pacquiao at number one, but the welterweight division is now in a voluntary stage and the topic of the mandatory will not be addressed for a few months by the WBC board of governors.”

MANNY #1 BUT FIRST FLOYD GETS “EASY” FIGHT
With Manny Pacquiao slated to fight in March, supposedly in the United States, there is no way he would be ready to go with “Money” who fights in May. And I just don’t think the match up is “right” for right now. What I mean is with Pacquiao notching another impressive victory in early 2014, and Floyd winning in May, September or early November, the table would be fully set and the timing perfect.
