these players will play for SMB-ABL team

this will be Helterbrand's lat season, mag retire na yan, they still need Cortez since hinde pa nila magagamit si Tenorio coz of his commitment with Gilas.. yan nga naging dahilan bakit na trade ng Alaska dahil ayaw siyang payagan pero naglaro pa rin siya sa Jones cup, dahil provision pala sa contract niya na kung meron national team at natawag siya maglalaro and his mother team cant do anything about it.

so meron go signal ang Ginebra for him to play for Smart..kaya wala rin siya sa Ginebra. so they still need cortez

Petron rookies Fajardo, Mallari get high marks in first tuneup game | InterAKTV

Rookies June Mar Fajardo and Alex Mallari played their first tuneup game in a Petron uniform on Thursday morning, and they got high passing marks.

Fajardo, the top overall pick, and Mallari, selected third overall, showed a lot of promise during their team’s 101-98 loss against the reigning Governors Cup champion Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

“Magaling sila,” Guiao told InterAKTV. “They have a lot of potential and they give Petron a different look. We see the rise of a new era in Petron with the acquisition of young players, including Fajardo and Mallari.

“I don’t know what grade should I give them, but I will definitely give them high marks.”

Petron team consultant Rajko Toroman, graded the two rookies on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the highest, for their performances on both ends of the court.

“On offense, I think they deserved to be graded by eight,” said Toroman. “We should be satisfied with the way they played even though this is the first time they see action for our team. On defense, they need a lot of catching up to do, so I will give them a six.”

Gabe Norwood, one of the leaders of the Elasto Painters, came away impressed by Fajardo and Mallari.

In one sequence, Fajardo caught Norwood on a solid screen to free up Joseph Yeo. “Man, he knocked me down on my butt in one play,” said Norwood. “But Fajardo looks impressive. He’s big and tall and he can play.”

Norwood was also impressed by Mallari’s play. “What’s interesting to see is how he will be able to play once Marcio [Lassiter] and Chris [Lutz] return,” said Norwood.

“But I have to give the rookies a 7.5 to 8 in a scale of 1 to 10.”

San Miguel Corporation executive Noli Eala was wowed by Fajardo’s first game.

“I haven’t checked yet how many rebounds he pulled down, but he did score 17 points and that was impressive for someone playing in his first preseason game,” said Eala.

Asi turned down the 2 yrs maximum salary from Meralco.. magkano ba swelduhan sa ABL??

Taulava bolts Meralco, signs deal with ABL’s San Miguel Beermen | InterAKTV

Former PBA Most Valuable Player Asi Taulava is leaving the country’s premier professional basketball league.

The 39-year-old center will strut his stuff in the ASEAN Basketball League after signing a deal with the San Miguel Beermen.

Taulava’s agent Sheryl Reyes relayed the news to InterAKTV. The veteran slotman, who spent the past two seasons with the Meralco Bolts, signed his new deal in the presence of no less than San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang as well as sports executive Noli Eala.

According to the agent, Taulava also drew interest from Barako Bull in the PBA as well as teams in the ABL and the Chinese Basketball Association. But San Miguel’s offer to Taulava was too good to pass up, despite efforts by the Bolts to re-sign him. Meralco reportedly offered a two-year extension to retain Taulava.

“The ABL is only played once a week, so it means he will have more time to spend with his family,” said Reyes.

“He will be with his family and stay in shape. Whatever activities SMB has in line for him,” said Reyes. “They start training October because they might join pre-season tournaments.”

Taulava won PBA MVP honors in 2003 after leading Talk ‘N Text to its first championship in franchise history. He has also seen action for Coca-Cola.

Former PBA top pick Aguilar tries out for NBA D-League (VIDEO) | Team Pilipinas

Former PBA top pick Aguilar tries out for NBA D-League

LOS ANGELES, California – Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) No. 1 draft pick Japeth Aguilar is still pursuing his dream of making it to the top league in the world, the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The 25-year-old Aguilar was taken with the top pick by Burger King in the 2009 PBA Rookie Draft.

He is currently in the United States and for the past two days, the 6-foot-9 Aguilar has been trying out for an NBA Development League (D-League) team, the Bakersfield Jam, in east Los Angeles.

The Jam is the minor league affiliate for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors.

More than 80 basketball players attended the open try-out, which was then whittled down to the best 20 players on Sunday.

Aguilar was one of the 20 chosen players who also played in a scrimmage. Though his team lost, the Filipino player stood out with 10 points on five-of-nine shooting, while also grabbing four rebounds and blocking five shots.

Coaches in attendance praised Aguilar's performance, with Jam headcoach Will Voigt saying he sees a lot of potential for the former Smart Gilas Pilipinas mainstay.

"He's been playing as a four or a five (power forward or center) in the Philippines, so we'll have to transition him into a three (small forward). It' going to be a process for him," Voigt said.

"But he's shown flashes throughout the weekend that makes you want to see more."

Assistant head coach John Bryant called Aguilar a "very intriguing prospect," but also brought up some issues that has dogged the player since he came out of Western Kentucky University in 2009.

"I think right now he's a little too passive," Bryant said. "He needs to be the man, and mix that with some aggression."

"I want to see him throw an elbow or something. Get out of his shell a little and play loose. I think he'll really be something special," he added.

This is the second time that Aguilar has tried out for the NBA D-League. He first tried out in 2009 but was not picked in the D-League draft.

With his PBA contract having expired, Aguilar is hopeful that he will become the first Filipino to make it to the NBA.

"It was going to be now or never," Aguilar said. "If it's not for me, then at least I tried. I don't want to have any regrets, so I just want to try."

The Bakersfield Jam will not make a roster decision until mid-October. Until then, Aguilar said he is training in the gym everyday to try and improve his game.

Aguilar's agent said they have also scheduled a planned workout for him with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday and are trying to get a workout with the Orlando Magic later this week.

Yan nama talaga problem niya, hindi aggresive. Dapat yung parang si Bynum nung rookie, dunked on Shaq and had a shoving match.

PBA na ulit... (continued)
