Lassiter Going To Petron Blaze?

MANILA, Philippines — Already one of the powerhouse teams in the PBA, Petron Blaze will become more formidable once it gets Powerade rookie star Marcio Lassiter.

From the looks of it, the Boosters are almost certain of securing Lassiter’s services unless the Commissioner’s Office thumbs it down.

Reliable sources, however, confirmed yesterday that the Boosters and the Tigers have consummated the trade last Friday with Lassiter joining the already talented roster of Petron in exchange for sophomores Noy Baclao and Rey Guevara from Powerade.

The trade proposal, according to a person who has knowledge with the talks, has already been forwarded to Commissioner, Atty. Angelico “Chito” Salud for approval.

Salud is currently in Japan for a business trip and will return by Thursday.

The decision to ship the 6-foot-2 Lassiter to Petron only add woes to the team following reports that top officials of The Coca-Cola Company based in Atlanta is reselling the franchise to the San Miguel Corp. (SMC) last week.

Powerade is a brand of Coca-Cola.

The Bulletin tried to get the reaction of JB Baylon, Powerade’s representative to the PBA Board of Governors, but a text message wasn’t answered as of press time. Baylon already denied last week that they are going to re-sell the franchise to San Miguel.

Powerade guard Gary David was incensed with the rumors, prompting him to react in his Twitter: “This is unfair. No idea what’s happening with the team!!!”

Lassiter was tabbed No. 4 overall by the Tigers in last year’s PBA Rookie Draft following a solid stint with the Smart-Gilas Pilipinas.

Petron finally gets Lassiter in new deal

MANILA, Philippines – Marcio Lassiter is going to Petron after all.

PBA Commissioner Atty. Chito Salud approved the new deal that will send Powerade’s super rookie together with veteran playmaker Celino Cruz to the Blaze Boosters in exchange for last season’s Rookie of the Year Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Rey Guevarra and veteran Lordy Tugade.

The new trade proposal was sent to the Commissioner’s office this morning and has been approved this afternoon.

“The terms of the revised trade are hereby approved. There is acceptable parity in the cumulative skills, value, use and potential the players from each side of the trade will bring to their respective teams,” said Atty. Salud in a text message sent to Philstar.com.

Salud found the new deal better than what was proposed at the start of the Commissioner’s Cup wherein Lassiter should have been dealt for Guevarra and last season’s top overall pick Noy Baclao.

Upon close scrutiny of the individual and separate acts of the players involved during the 1:47 mark of the 4th quarter of the Game 4 of the Commissioner’s Cup Finals between the B-Meg Llamados and Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, and conformably to the authority of the Commissioner to upgrade or downgrade the penalties imposed on players by the referees, this Office rules as follows:

For incurring two (2) flagrant fouls, both of which upon review and consideration of the totality of his actuations are upgraded to Flagrant Foul Penalty 2 (FFP2), Pamboy Raymundo is hereby FINED the amount of FORTY THOUSAND PESOS (P40,000.00) and given a one (1) game SUSPENSION.
