So she's a type 2? At the early age of 12? What the hell are on our foods these days? Type 2 used to be called adult onset diabetes.

Just research what insulin resistance and sensitivity is and youll understand the cause of diabetes..if you breakdown all foods kahit protein fat etc..there is an insulin response..sa carbs naman ganun din pero may certain food na mas mabilis ang absorbtion coz wala syang kasamang fiber...example rice vs banana vs sweet potato..you can chk them sa glycemic index..sa primary cause of type 2 is insulin resistance...example, ang healthy individual eats something, say bread, it will be converted to glucose or sugar that will go to the blood..si pancreas mag rerelease ng insulin..ang insulin its job is to get the glucose/sugar from the blood to distribute sa iba ibang organs..like sa brain, muscles etc...ang isang healthy individual need less insulin to distribute glucose...understand...

Now ill tell you what causes diabetes...lets say you at 7am, the food you eat esp carbs is converted to glucose, insulin is released then transport the glucose sa brain and muscles..all is well....insulin did its job....ngayon kumain sa uli ng 10am...snack sa office..chippy at coke..si pancreas mag rerelease na naman ng insulin....pag sundo ni insulin sa glucose sa blood dadalhin nya dapat sa muscles at brain...eh puno pa from your previous meal...si pancreas to compensate, mag rerelease ng mas maraming insulin to force the glucose into your muscles, pag wala syang mapuntahan...sa fat cells sya dadalhin..the lunch came....ganun uli..day in and day out..hanggang release sya ng release ng insulin....your muscles, brain and fat is resisting the insulin bringing them sugar/glucose kasi puno na nga sila..that is type 2....if type 2 di naagapan...the pancreas will fail coz of being overworked...yan na ang type 1..

Btw type two can be reverse..you can train your body to be more sensitive by fasting and calorie counting

    Sir correction

ang type 1 diabetes your immune system is attacking the pancreatic beta cells kaya hindi nag p-produce ng insulin

Dadating at dadating ang time na kakayanin ng technology i-eliminate ang mga inheritable
diseases / genetic predisposition to certain diseases

And the tech will also be used to engineer superior humans

The tech will be difficult to regulate globally

The rich and powerful will want to use the tech to live longer and have genetically superior offspring

Eugenics are movements in US that enforce laws that sterilize people with inheritable disease, drug addicts, feeble minded, physchopat, ganaraly people with unwanted traits will be forced to be sterilized by law. It's what Hitler used for propaganda to clean the Aryan race, although he twisted the meaning and used it in an extreme way.

They already have PGD, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. This is done during or before IVF, In Vitro Fetilisation, they scan the embryo of the genetic disease, the embryo will only be planted when it's free of genetic disease. Sadly ang mahal na ng IVF, adding PGD to it mas lalo pa magmahal.

But this is old technology already, what's new is "designer babies". You can customize your babies feature based on their genes, you want blonde kids with blue eyes? Yes you can have it.

but present knowledge of genetic diseases are still incomplete

Science has not yet identified all disease causing genes so those embryos will only have KNOWN disease causing genes shut off / knocked out / snipped / edited out or whatever terminology they use

There are still the unknown genes

Those embryos will not be totally free of genetic disease

    The science isn't complete yet

It'll really hard to compete since pharmaceuticals are the ones doing most of the research. Like diabetes for example, these companies will be shooting themselves on their foot if they prevented their future customers to be born.

    the federation has banned it.
but bashir's parents traveled to beyond the borders, and had their son "augmented".
the only reason he was allowed to live within the borders, was because he was a child when it happened, and that he can integrate easily with the rest.
and yet, he was only salutatorian in his med class, one-upped by an non-augmented human.
but dr lense (the val) thinks julian intentionally made the mistake.
but my question is, he didn't yet know he was an augmented at that time. so why would he "downgrade" himself?

Kaya pala conservative Catholics don't agree with IVF, reminds me of the film Gattaca (one of my favorite films)

I've nothing against IVF and I would do it if that's what it takes to have a child but I know women who won't talaga.

I would imagine catholic is against PGD, they would view it as killing kasi you'll be throwing away the embryo na may sakit. Eh sa catholic pag nagsama na ang egg and sperm eh considered "life" na yun.
