September 21st, 2019 12:33 PM #3202Kung ganyan ka baba mileage, ang worry ko is sinundan ba niya yung oil change just on the mileage? Or kahit papano annual ba pinapagawa. Kahit na sabi niya every year or 6 months papalit siya ng engine oil, I'd personally want to get the records from the owner (since first owned).
Since 10 years at mababa mileage, not sure pero papalitan na lang din siguro ATF nito for some peace of mind eventhough mababa mileage and normally at 40k kms, hindi pa need palitan ATF but since 10 years and 40k kms, not sure if possible na dumimi yung ATF inside over that long period.
Vios vs Altis? The J is a 1.3 right? So... don't expect fuel efficiency on highway or spirited driving on the Vios. Kung crawling city traffic, well, mas "matipid" idling consumption mo sa Vios but that's about it.
Pero the question is what is the purpose of the car I guess. A Point A to B car lang ba? Or starting family use?
Whether kung anu mas "konti bibigay" or "less hassle sa maintenance", depende talaga sa alaga nung dating mayari.
You would normally expect the 5 year old car to have less issues (for now) than a 10 year old car pero that might not be the case here.
Good luck in your purchase.
Since Gas yung Altis, baka may room naman to haggle yan if talagang napusuan mo yung Altis after mo inspect. =)

October 11th, 2019 12:19 AM #3204Hello,
I've been looking for a second-hand altis as a daily car and I'm torn between a 2006 altis J with 86k km and a 2002 1.8g altis with 92k km.
With all the papers complete and both cars in good condition, what should I choose? considering maintenance and repair costs such as transmission problems in the future.
Plano ko sana gawing primary car ito for a year or two then afterward weekend car na siya

October 11th, 2019 01:28 AM #3206MT versus AT is a personal choice.
personally, even as AT is argueably more easier to operate in stop and crawl traffic, i find MT offers more fingertip control.
i have MT innova and AT innova.
while majority of folks here prefer the AT because of our traffic situation, i prefer to bring out the MT. the AT is my coding car.
also, my MT gargles less fuel than my AT.Last edited by dr. d; October 11th, 2019 at 01:30 AM.

October 11th, 2019 01:47 AM #3207How about for repairs and maintenance costs especially for the transmission? I already did an estimate, the whole clutch assembly for the manual altis would play at around 8500 with labor then 3 years or longer depends sa gamit yung next na palit. Right now, marami kasi akong nakikita na 170-200k na altis puro a/t. kaya nagdadalawang isip ako kumuha ng a/t since baka due for replacement na or repair na yung transmission after a few months of ownership/use.

October 14th, 2019 02:53 PM #3208I had the Automatic transmission of my wife's 9th gen 2001 Altis 1.8G (135,000 kms) overhauled by an A/T specialist in Banawe. Replaced all the seals plus the labor, it cost me P23,000.
As long as the transmission is well maintained, and with good driving habits (not shifting to P or any opposite gear while in motion), the transmission will probably last another 100,000 kms.
My 10th gen 1.6V naman, according to Toyota, the WS (World Standard) type ATF does not need replacing under normal driving conditions. But I had the ATF replaced by the dealership last year for peace of mind, as my car already reached 100,000 kms
When buying a pre owned A/T car, try to do a cold start in the morning as much as possible. Shift it to D, the car should move right away. If it doesn't, an overhaul may be necessary (similar to our 1.8G)
