This is my first time here. I finally found where Xtrail owners converge and exchange information.
I have a 250x model which I bought September 2004 and is now running at 10k+ km. I would just like to share some experiences I have which could be of help to other xtrail owners and future owners.
Among all the cars I had, for me this is the best so far. Value for money in the mini-SUV category, though some of you might disagree, i think the Xtrail is on top. Power is more than enough for its weight. Although the Escape or Tribute has 24 more bhp than the 250X, power to weight ratio would even up the two. Comparing the fuel consumption with my friend's V6 Escape, he only gets at best 6km/ltr while I average at 7.5km/ltr.
Maintenance cost is also a lot cheaper. Labor and parts prices of Nissan casas are i think cheaper compared to Toyota, Honda or Ford.
I read some disappoinments here but I guess these are not unique to the Xtrails or Nissans and most of it are very minor. My wife's camry had to go in for shock absorber bearing replacement (Toyota forgot to put the left shock bearing on some of camrys) and replacement of power window motor. Toyota na yan. My friends complain about the lack of power in the new CRV. Minsan talaga malas lang.
I am in no way biased to Nissan and in fact this is my first one. If ever I would be biased, e sa Toyota na. Most of our cars were Toyota's before, our business deals with Toyota, and my dad used to work for Toyota.
Yung complain about the steering wheel wiggle, most probably tire balancing lang. Yung interior lights working and Nissan saying about cellular interference - could be true coz my dad's MB had similar problems and same reason ng casa.
Others:
1. Ingat din sa paint ng bumper coz it easily peels of at the edges.
2. Tried 170kph at Star and handling was stable.
3. With my mentioned fuel consumption, I use Petron unleaded. I read about knocking engine in one of the thread. Try to change the gasoline station first before the brand. Try to get your fuel from one station alone and dapat hindi binabaha yung station. Newer station the better. Underground tanks of old ones could be rusted, seeping moisture, etc.
4. I use Denso iridium plugs. The best! Improves engine idling, acceleration and fuel consumption. Mahal nga lang.
5. Yes I agree about the poor resistance of the plastic interior to scratches. Kainis!
6. Try getting an Ipod and cassette adapter for owners of 250X so you can have endless music you like.
7. Use only distilled water for the washers. Bago pa car natin to prevent calcium deposits.
8. I dont like the center armrest coz it moves easily (two way setting).
9. I also hate the default fresh air. Di kasi fresh and air natin.
10. Para sa akin, di nga bagay yung step board. Di naman mataas ang Xtrail at magmumukhang AUV.
11. At 3k km i noticed my axle boot punctured and grease was spewing. Nissan westgate replaced it under warranty pero di daw dapat coz may tinamaan daw. Impossible at nakatago yung boot! They just placed it under warranty for good will. Yeah right! Buti na lang I do the rounds on my car every now at kung lumaki yung damage baga di na nila warranty.
12. At Nissan westgate they wash your car under direct sunlight so if you go there for servicing, tell them in advanvce not to wash your car else you will have paint damage.
13. I advise putting a recessed back-up sensor. Have a good technician install it coz it means boring a hole in your bumper. There are stick-on types which dont need holes but it does not look OEM.
At the end of the day, kanya-kanyang taste tayo so my comments are IMHO. Whatever you do with your car, as long as it adds to your driving pleasure, do it and enjoy it. Kasihodang snow white and the seven dwarfs dolls pa yan.
Happy motoring!

What motor oil do you use? Viscosity? Synthetic ba? Does Nissan Westgate allow you to bring your own motoroil? Possible savings if we buy outside the casa.

Actually, it's better to not have the CASA wash you car after servicing... palinis ng interior pwede pa. They usually don't know how to do the cleaning or use the proper materials, causing swirl marks afterwards.

1st 1,000 Kms PMS, told the service advisor not to wash the car, after servicing was finished saw the service crew wipe down my car using a chimois and he used the same chimois on the interior... ouch. Napiling na lang ako.
5,000Kms PMS, told the service advisor not to wash the car, no vacuum, no wipe down, ako na bahala sabi ko. Then he asked me "sir naka paint protection system ba?", told him "yes"... eh naka wax lang naman.
Buttomline is that you have to specify everthing when servicing in a CASA so that they know what you want and what you expect.
