BOBBY Ray Parks has joined the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA D-League, giving the powerhouse team another top amateur star in its arsenal and perhaps a major asset if it makes the jump to the pro league.
Parks’ representative Charlie Dy confirmed the two-time UAAP MVP has signed up for the Road Warriors after being included in the team's official roster for the D-League's Foundation Cup opening on Monday.
NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez also said Parks is already with the team but hinted that he won't play with the Road Warriors until he has wrapped up his commitments with mother school National University.
"He is playing with us but he have to finish muna his school commitments before he plays," Fernandez said.
The acquisition of the NU star has further strengthened an NLEX lineup that already counts on amateur standouts and Gilas cadet members Garvo Lanete, Kevin Alas, Jake Pascual, Ronald Pascual, and Matt Ganuelas.
Interestingly, Parks’ arrival at NLEX also came at a time when the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned company is awaiting approval on its application for membership in the PBA, where the son of legendary PBA import Bobby Parks could become a direct-hire recruit.
The move, however, may signal a complete break for NU and Parks, who failed to lead the Bulldogs to a UAAP championship in three seasons in the premier collegiate league.
Parks recently saw action for Banco De Oro, which had a school tie-up with NU in the Aspirants Cup. BDO declined to participate this conference and released Parks, paving the way for him to suit up for NLEX without going through the draft.
The star-studded Road Warriors squad recently won their fifth title in the Aspirants Cup after sweeping Big Chill in the best-of-three finals.
NLEX will open its Foundation Cup campaign against Blackwater Sports on Tuesday at the JCSGO gym in Quezon City.
