Ma-bend lang fiber optic cable minsan useless na eh, lalo pa if someone forcibly removes it without proper care in handling.

In terms of raw materials I guess meron sometimes copper or aluminum used as a strength member, but far less than in electrical wire. Otherwise the core is just glass which is probably cheaper to make from raw silicon or existing glass panes rather than extracting the relatively small amount inside a fiber optic cable.

Any PLDT fibre users here? Their 150 mbps plan got a big boost... now going at 400 mbps.|

PLDT is pretty smart about keeping their plans equitable naman. If the lower tier gets a speed boost, the higher plans will usually get a corresponding boost as well so that the people on those plans don't feel "lugi".

This is a friend's connection on an old plan that got phased out. He's paying significantly less than plan 9499 (Gigabit), but PLDT pro-rated his speed to around 800Mbps.

I have no doubts in my mind that they're bypassing bandwidth restrictions going to their Speedtest servers so that everyone will get artificially high bandwidth results for the purposes of their PR campaigns.

Because of that, I only use Speedtest to check if there's anything wrong between PLDT and my network.

For that matter, I've lost track and don't even know what I should be getting for Plan 2899. All I know is, I typically don't get less than 400 mbps.... 300mbps at worst.... using any of PLDT/Smart servers. Anything less and there's definitely something wrong and I call them.

You can manually select a server not under PLDT. We have some apps hosted sa US West so I often ping ISPs near Cali where the submarine cables terminate.

For me the acid test if I can download from Steam (or Origin, Ubisoft, Epic etc), Microsoft, or the high seas and get the rated speed. Usually kasi once you get to the 300+Mbps range you're limited by the websites you're downloading from already.

This is pretty solid proof that the connection was going at around 750Mbps since Steam was able to peak at 80MB/s.

For the most part I'm happy with even 200Mbps. Even large downloads finish within the day, any more than that and it's the hard disk space that becomes an issue.

Natatawa lang ako sa mga nagko comment na ang mahal daw ng cignal connect, yung satellite internet ng cignal. Ang mahal daw, 3.3k for 10gb of data. Mag DITO na lang daw sila mas mura. [emoji23]

I can certainly understand that really remote locations require satellite internet. Places where even mobile phones don't work.

But the writing's on the wall. Once Starlink turns on their service here in the PH within the year... and at a lower initial cost and monthly fee to boot, sino kaya pupulutin sa kangkungan?

I would assume cignal would lower their price to be competitive.

Mahal starlink, not sure if they will offer it at lower price once they gained 10%+ market share in PH.

At 5k/month ng starlink, parang kuntento na ako sa PLDT plan ko na 1699 since city limits lang naman.
Cgro this is useful if you are going to travel to a remote places, or it may appeal to those that will usually camp out.

Also, I didn't know na may cignal internet using satellite. That would be a welcome addition dito sa PH and a much cheaper than starlink.

Also, hindi pa masyadong wide coverage ni dito.
I recently bought dito sim for my dual sim iphone.
I was tempted from their 99/month 7GB data, 300 mins call to other network.
Pero hirap makasagap ng signal on some places especially if you are inside the building.
Wala ding 5G sa iphone, not sure if makakuha ng 5G signal android users.
Globe 5G is OK in my area.

Imbis na makatipid, napa load tuloy sa primary globe sim prepaid ko ng Php213 which is 5GB, 500 mins globe to globe calls for 30 days. if maubos 5GB before mag one month, top-upan ko lang ng 5Gb using Go50.

Tipid sana dito if wide coverage signal niya.

Where is the 5k/month? This is from their website when I entered my PH address. Granted it's just an estimate.

Also, I think their monthly bandwidth quota is 1TB.

Again, satellite internet is not for everyone. If you have an off-grid hacienda in the mountains, this is probably your only option for connectivity.

They are way, way more advanced than you think. They've been using satellite tech long before most people here were born.

Yung Globe At Home modem ko din natutulog na lang sa cabinet.
Tamang GOMO SIM na lang ang alternate connection ko kapag lumalabas or may problema sa local internet.
So far I have one for my dual-SIM phone and another for my tablet at home.

Update on my current Converge Plan 1500. Originally 25Mbps when I got it last Nov. 2020.

Same here. Using it as WAN Failover. When my primary ISP (PLDT Fibr) goes down, the router automatically shifts to the backup modem.

Difference is, I was able to unlock/de-brand the modem and so I have the versatility to use non-Globe/GOMO SIMs like DITO if I have to.

I'm on the same converge 1500 plan but nowhere near these speeds. How come ang bilis nito if you don't mind me asking...
