yebo, once inactivate yung computer or registered yung computer sa with a certain cd key set ni-lolog na nila ito...so once na use up, it would appear na pirated na even if you destroy the old pc.
it was a marketing gimmik para every new computer will have a new OS. The best round-about that I know is to allow auto updates but not to allow auto install. And then select which one to install.
with regards to spyware, adwares...in my experience nothing beats SPYBOT...its free (donation is accepted btw) and very effective.
what I bought was a legal copy of NORTON INTERNET SECURITY - one copy pero I use it to 3 pcs...not bad for a 365days subscription.
number001: Naku bro, if you hate update reboots, wait till you have like 4 different Adobe products in your system.
If you run Adobe update, let's say for Acrobat Pro, and it shows 4 items to update, all 4 needs individual reboots!
It depends. Try to find out what kind of version the windows xp installed in your office. There are two kinds: volume license edition and retail edition. Retail requires validation through phone, internet, etc to activate Windows otherwise it will cease to function after 30 days (if you fail to activate it). For the volume license programs, here is what Microsoft has to say:Originally Posted by yebo
How does Microsoft Product Activation work?
Product Activation works by validating that the software's product key, required as part of product installation, has not been used on more PCs than is allowed by the software's end user license agreement (EULA). In general, Windows XP can be installed on one PC and Office 2003 or Office XP can be installed on one PC and the laptop computer used by the user of the one PC. (For specifics, please see the EULA accompanying your product.) Product key information, in the form of the product ID, is sent along with a "hardware hash" (a non-unique number generated from the PC's hardware configuration) to Microsoft's activation system during activation. In Windows XP SP1, the product key itself is sent in addition to the product ID. Activation is completed either directly via the Internet or by a telephone call to a customer service representative. Activations on the same PC using the same product key are unlimited. Product Activation discourages piracy by limiting the number of times a product key can be activated on different PCs.Which customers will be required to activate?
Product activation will not be required for licenses acquired by a customer through one of Microsoft's volume licensing programs such as Open License or Select License. Volume licensing programs can scale to even the smallest of businesses, as customers can qualify for the Microsoft Open License program by acquiring as few as five product licenses.
ok understood, thanks. tama nga yung sabi mo na hindi pwede install on several pc's pag single license. kasi i remember now, i had an original windows 2000 cd licensed for only 1 comp. ok siya when i installed it on my 1st pc but when i tried to install it on another pc ayaw mag-register. afaik volume license yung xp pro na hiningi ko last month, di ko lang alam kung ilan comp sya pwede. when i installed it in my pc and in my laptop and registered it ok naman nag-register pareho even if it was already installed on 3 comps here on the rig.
ako naman dito sa bahay, nakaka-3 install na ako sa isang pc, different hard disks, ok naman...
eto medyo weird, from 512Mb ram, ginawa kong 1Gb, nag flash ng blue screen, at sabi, need to activate again, dahil marami na raw changes sa hardware ng PC ko..
I can't remember this properly. But, it's something like 3 devices are allowed every quarter. If you exceed that amount within that same quarter, then you have to reactivate. If you did 3 installs on the same pc but with different hard drives all on the same quarter..........That would make it 3 devices although I would've expected reactivation with each hard drive.Originally Posted by RedHorse
Anyway, that's 3. Add the extra ram, that makes it 4 at least.....
What I do is spread out my upgrades or get the parts I need the first time.
I've added an SB Audigy 2 Value, 250gb hard drive, installed and removed a tv tuner with no reactivation required.
Edit: If you use up the 3 allowed devices and wait until the next quarter, it resets and you're allowed another 3.

one thing you should avoid limewire + DAP or bearshare + DAP (download accelerator) installed at the same time. patay ang system nyo dyan halos 100% CPU utilization
Hehehe! Di pa din ako marunong eh! Papaturo pa din ako sa kuya ng best friend ko (linux addict yun eh)!Originally Posted by finchy18

This "Genuine Advantage Notification" is a complete joke. Ang daling i-bypass nung nag screen sa tita ko, meron lang file na dinelete at pinalitan ng blank na read-only file. O kaya ipa-notify to update nalang imbis na auto-install, tapos "Never show this update" pag pipili ka na. Anyway it's completely harmless, hahaba lang ng 5 seconds login time mo (kasi may 5 second nag screen siya).
We bought 3 Toshiba Satellite laptops last year. Each one has its own Windows XP Pro disk. The problem is I had my laptop reformatted and I forgot where I placed my disk. So, I borrowed the disk from the other laptop user. Would the Windows XP Pro installed in my laptop already considered illegal?
madali lang yan... kapag nag automatic update... make sure to choose custom installation and NEVER install the option for "Windows Genuine Advantage"
Saka wag kayo mag-alala, maraming consumer advocates na tumitira sa Microsoft and they will change how this WGA policy notifies individuals...
WOoohoo!
AT first kakatakot nman parang bang "Oi pirated ang ginagamit mo! update ng update kapa ".. na update ko yong genuine patch... kakainis sa startup .. at first BUT may mind got to work to take it off in my system.. di nman pwde eh UNinstall ang windows genuine kasi di pwde.. so What I did is I find the program and rename it and delete it.. so the next restart wla na.. hehehe.. marunong din to noh!
mahal ng brand new cd tapos maluluma din yun.![]()
