Just ran a scan with AVG free. Found a virus/worm named small. It infected the c:\windows\system32\_.vbs and c:\windows\system32\_.bat AVG could not heal it so I moved it to the virus vault. Next scan its found again.
So far windows is working normally except I cant double click the c: icon in control panel.

ANy cure or do I have to reformat? Hope I dont need to reformat cause I have tons of data to backup.

This trojan may include Adware, Spyware, Malware, hacks and data mining and this is also used to download spyware programs like Internet Optimizer. And it can also log all your keyboard activities.

btw, have you downloaded anything lately?

just try to install anti spyware remover. i dont think you need to do reformat on this virus though.

Maybe you can try Trend Micro's Hijack this

    hope this helps.

    Thanks guys.

Getting frustrated. Tied to remove with AVG, Kapersky and Avast, no success. They detect it but cant remove it. Spybot Search and Destroy does not see it.

Will try Hijack This, if it still does not work I'm going to reformat.

unstall AVG then install the AVIRA antivirus.

    update first before you scan

Finally killed the virus. Not sure how I did it but the PC is now clean.
Avast, Avira online scanner and AVG all report the PC is virus free.

However, still can not access the icon of c: in my computer. When I click it, it says: Can not find script file "C:\_.vbs"

Does XP have a repair function? I mean some install programs allow you to repair.

Reformat is still the best way. You may be able to remove the virus but not the damage it did.

Try booting from the XP cd. There should be some limited system files repair functions early in the install process. Otherwise salvage what you can (browser Favorites, files, etc) and reformat.

There's also the slight chance the virus may not even be gone......R-E-F-O-R-M-A-T time.

im using AVIRA anti virus, nadelete naman po... viruses., mostly po local virus na ang pumapasok ngayon sa mga pc natin... kaya hindi na nababasa ng foreign virus detector..

i hope tama po ako, paki-correct na lang po.. thanks
