I think this is the case for a lot of people. I'm trying to be a bit different though. I don't wanna reach my 40s with the feeling that I missed out a lot in my 20s. So I try to engage in a lot of hobbies now instead of being that guy who works from 9am-9pm everyday.

That said, I still try to evaluate which hobbies are both fun and productive, so that even in my downtime, I'm improving myself as opposed to just merely killing time.

Aside from video games (which I've successfully given up), another unproductive pastime of mine is watching TV series - though right now I'm still able to justify that it broadens your perspective on things, just like how reading books does albeit to a lesser extent since TV is usually less deep and thought provoking.
