Maybe you don't need to relocate the outdoor unit if there's enough headroom space to install a flexible air duct. That will prevent the hot exhaust air from looping back into the intake.

Something like this... but with the air duct hanging from the ceiling.

just the cost of the ducting, depending on the type, them ductings can be very expensive... thousands if the diameter is big...
it might be cheaper and longer-lasting in the long run, if the unit were relocated, instead of running that ducting...
