A good phone camera will be enough for about 80% of pictures. But that last 20% is where having a full-frame SLR or mirroless shines.

There are some photos that I still wouldn't have been able to take with a phone, such as this:

Night photos of moving subjects with bokeh are another. Phones now have crazy good night modes but need you to stay still for a long time.

Portrait mode (fake bokeh) is also something I sparingly use on my phone since the bokeh doesn't look as natural as in a full frame camera with high aperture lens.

If you need large-scale prints of your photos, definitely an SLR with proper lighting and post-processing is necessary.

If you just want to take pictures as memories to post on social media or share with friends, most of the time phone photos are already really good.
