the only way to eliminate PUJs is by free market forces.

Kung lahat ng mga nag-ji-jeep bumili ng sariling car, motorbike, scooter, or bicycle, the PUJs will go out of business.

Like in other asian countries, sobra dami naka motor and bisikleta.

For me, it's simple. The State can invoke its police powers to eliminate the jeepneys by revoking their franchises due to palpable violation of the Clean Air Act. It's no secret that the engines of these vehicles are so outdated that it is constantly spewing black smoke whenever and wherever they may travel.

If you want to be really strict about it, you can even cite passenger safety as the overwhelming consideration. Using by historical data, you can enumerate the number of accidents involving jeepneys going back the last 5-10 years and I'm willing to bet that a lot of the damage or injuries were caused due to driver ineptness and the jeepney being inherently unsafe for public transport. Good if the driver or operator answers for the damage or injuries caused but, more often than not, they run or abscond without any intention of making reparation.

Maybe its time to disabuse the public from the idea that public transportation is necessarily cheap because it's not. It's enough that the cost of public transportation be reasonable in relation to comfort, safety and convenience.

no to private franchise jeepneys. yes to an efficient mass transport system.
banggit ko lang uli ung isang suggestion made by an acquaintance way back in HS: phase out jeepneys, replace them with minibuses. two jeepney drivers will then take turns being the driver and conductor.

No to private franchise-jeepneys! Go efficient mass transport system!

Politicians can't simply eliminate jeepneys. Mawawalan sila ng Voters na uutuin. That's the reason why until now madaming jeep sa lansangan, aside from the most economical means of transport.

I think regulated oil prices is too late to be put back. Since pumasok na tayo sa Golablization kind of shite.

Though we could always blame Ramos for it hehehehe
