    Hi peeps,

am in the market for a 22-inch lcd display. pansin ko lang, it's the cheaper brands that have HDMI, at least in RP: Hanns-G, Chimei, etc. Problem is, these brands tend to lag in some features. In particular, mura ung Hanns-G, but i've read some mixed reviews about its displays.

i'm more inclined to think na mas important ung actual performance, contrast ratio, response time, etc as opposed to the HDMI thing...though i can't get rid of some nagging thoughts of "future-proofing"; i.e. baka puro HDMI na ang lalabas na interface for most devices a few years down the line.

Should i go HDMI? i'm no HDTV/home theatre buff, and i really don't mind if a certain movie is in VCD, DVD or Blu-Ray format. Mainly i'll be using it for my pc anyways, and for hooking up to a laptop(when i finally buy one)

I guess it depends. If your pc/laptop also has HDMI, sure. If not, then.... what's the point? DVI and even VGA ports are still more than adequate for pc monitor use.

kung hindi ka naman pihikan sa picture quality dont bother to go hdmi, as of now konti pa lang may hdmi features, mas madami pa din ung DVI or VGA, by the time na maging accepted ta todo and hdmi the price should go down by then, tsaka ka na mag upgrade

advantage ng hdmi lang is audio+video in 1 and digital to digital data transfer

disadvantages: cannot be use for long length of wires

there's no such thing as future proofing

    just enjoy your stuff today

    good luck

The improvement in picture quality of HDMI won't be noticeable in small screens like the 22-incher you're planning to buy. This can only be noticed in 42" and above panels.

buy the best hardware for now not the best hardware for the future.
in a few year's time magpapalit ka din naman talaga ng hardware.

If for the heck of it wag na, pero kung easily available naman then sure go for it. Pero DVI is also digital also and its good enough already. HDMI is more for HD TV's rather than computer monitors.

how long are you planning to keep the unit? because everything (digital media) will be on next-gen formats eventually, so why not get something you can use for the long term? blu-ray players look ridiculously expensive now, but do did dvd players 10 years ago. now you can get them for very low prices...

i also question whether you'll be able to resist the blu-ray bug after trying it :D i know i haven't :hihihi:

like tidus said, kung easily available naman then go for it. but I won't pay for 3k or more for just a HDMI input. you can convert your DVI to HDMI naman eh. may adaptors available para dyan.

You can still use the old monitor in a dual-monitor set up if your new video card has 2 ports or you can also opt to use the old monitor with the old built-in video. Or, if you buy a laptop then you're set for dual-monitor.

I can't imagine myself using the pc at home with just one monitor especially when I'm doing many tasks.

    Just watch your electric bill.

If you're going to use your laptop as main player (video and audio source)... I don't think you need an HDMI input from your future LCD. But if you're fiuture laptop will have an HDMI output, it doesn't hurt to buy your LCD with an HDMI input, besides it will be more neat to look at and easier to connect and disconnect the HDMI cable compared to a VGA and an audio headphone jack. By the way HDMI cables are now cheap.

been looking for the best 22". then I found out that only 24" Samsung has HDMI, kasi may speakers na rin yung monitor.

Prices of monitors are droping... yung glossy and oval curve shaped sa ilalim ang dini-display sa mga tindahan. parang na-Phase-Out na yung plain simple rectangular shaped.

Maybe it's just because I haven't kept touch with technology or I'm missing something about HDMI. But, isn't HDMI designed to run both video and audio to a monitor and its built-in speakers?

That'd be great if the monitor has great built-in speakers. But, I honestly doubt 22" monitors will have audio with rich bass and mids. In fact, most have sound barely better than a laptop's tin-can sound.
