I've got an ECS G550 which I acquired last Feb. during the BPI Credit Card Madness. It sold for P55K at O% interest for 12 mos.

So far, so good. I've been using it for my office work and for presenting our business plan. Works great and is pretty robust. Yun lang, it's a mobile Pentium 4 and not a Centrino model so you'll have to buy a WiFi PCMCIA card if you want to have wireless access to the internet.

Other specs are 24x CDROM Drive, 256MB RAM, 16MB Video Memory and a 15" TFT screen.

Ako kasi kahit wala nang Wi Fi ok lang dahil meron kaming broadband LAN access sa office and PLDT MyDSL at home.

You might want to check out the new Twinhead laptops which sell for just a little more (around P62K-P66K). But, it features a combo drive and centrino processor. The screen is smaller though at 12" only.

    Goodluck with your intended purchase!

    HTH!

You can buy a brand new Toshiba (low end) with your budget... Sa memory, the more the merrier siyempre pero you get diminsihing returns past 256MB... so unless you are playing Doom3, okay na ang 256MB. Sa processor, look for a Pentium M based model para tipid ka sa battery life. Yung centrino is basically a Pentium M plus a Cisco Wifi chip. Ingat din sa wifi, ubos agad battery mo dyan :-)

    Ungas,

The ECS' line of laptops as well as the ASUS brand are both upgradeable for the following components:

    1. Hard Disk - to higher capacity (20-40 Gb)
    2. RAM - to higher capacity (256-512 Mb)
    3. CD ROM Drive - to CDRW or CDR/DVD ROM Drive

From what I know, the notebooks of name brands like Toshiba, Compaq-HP, IBM, Fujistsu, etc. are upgradeable only insofar as the RAM is concerned. But, then again, with competition from the ECS and ASUS brands, they might have changed their notebook's upgradeability.

There's an easier way to increase your notebook's storage capacity. You can:

    1. Get an external HDD which can be unwieldy
    2. Get a PCMCIA card reader and your choice of media (i.e. MMC, SD, CF) or
    3. Get an external CDRW

I've tried the second option and it's really better than having to get a new HDD, unless you'll be storing videos or games.

i'm also looking around for a notebook pc... hirap mahanap na magandang specs na mura hehe..

    eto mga research ko..

    - if you want to play DOOM3, mas okay kung at least ATI Radeon 9000 or Nvidia GeForce Go 5200... kung hindi gamer, any video chip will do fine

    - ASUS carries a 2 year international warranty
    - Toshiba carries a 3 year labor only on some models.

    - yung mga generic brands like ECS, twinhead, NEO, etc eh mura dahil wala silang windows XP home and walang floppy disk.. yung mga branded like asus, dell, ibm,hp,compaq, acer, toshiba eh laging meron windows software... mga 5200php din WinXP Home and 1700php ang external USB floppy disk..

if you add the missing OS and Floppy, minsan eh close na sya sa branded notebooks..so better check the specs

    - Memory, 256MB is standard.. but shared ito sa video chip kaya mabagal na PC lalo na sa windows XP, a good start is 512MB... mas okay kung 1x512MB memory ilagay para meron pang available memory slot, usually kasi eh 2x256MB ilalagay para mas mura..

    - COMBO drive is a must (DVD-ROM/CD-R/RW) pag walang floppy disk

    - no need to get the floppy disk, dagdag lang ito sa cost.. a USB flash drive is more economical.. kung maraming floppy disk, transfer them to CD..

    - Harddisk, upgradable naman ito

    - built-in infrared port (IR/FIR) can be used on some cellphones

    - a built-in firewire can be used for video-editing, this is for video camera with DV-IN/DV-OUT

    - a built-in WIFI is standard sa centrino, better get the 'G' standard para up to 54Mbps... kung wala pa ito sa specs, a add-on PC CARD(sa pcmcia) will cost around 2500php.

    - CENTRINO, this is just a marketing name of Intel, it consist of Pentium M, wireless LAN(b/g), lightweight and longer battery life

    - dalawang klase ang Pentium M
    1) DOTHAN - 2MB cache(2nd level),
    2) BANIAS - 1MB cache(2nd level

mas okay kung yung DOTHAN na kung kaya pa ng budget..

    - on my case, I'm planning to buy a notebook with Pentium 4 2.8Ghz or 3.0Ghz with at least ati radeon 9000 or nvidia geforce go5200.

40 GB (mas marami much better)
    512MB (ok na siguro to
    WiFi and Firewire
DVD with Combo (hindi combo meal ha)

Mga magkano kaya presyo ganyang specs.. Madali nalang mag upgrade ng mga sounds dami naman latest gadget ngayon na pang external soround din.. Then bili nalang ako ng projector or sikwatin ko yung isa dito sa office hehehehe

Hard disks are easy to upgrade. All notebooks use a 2 inch hard disk which is available at shops in Gilmore.
