iba ang router for the WiFi and iba pa rin ang pang wired LAN, kung ganun yung gusto mo na setup you'll have to buy them both or I can suggest for you to use a WiFi router para wireless ka na.

Kung sira yung WiFi ng Laptop mo, you can buy USB wireless LAN at any CD-R King stores, they are priced at 500petot++, eto rin ang gagamitin mo para sa desktop mo, pag na setup mo na siya wala na problema sa mga dangling wires at wala ka na ring problema kung sakaling magdagdag ka pa ng desktop or Laptop.

you need a wireless router with a 4 port switching hub. you can connect up to 4 wired computers directly or you could buy another switch and connect it to gain extra wired connections. you can connect a lot of wireless devices but of course if they're all downloading then your speed will suffer.

you only need one router, not 2. the most common router would be linksys wrt54g, a wireless router with a 4 port switch. i personally use a linksys wrt54gs (speed booster supposedly) which has been on for the past 2 years, 24/7 except when there are power interruptions. this router is durable, can handle *******s, p2ps, whatever.

Gamit ko Linksys wrt54g. P3,150 from Octagon. Wired sa PC ko sa 1st flr and wifi sa laptop on the 2nd flr. Pwede parehong wired. What you will only need is a long ethernet cable from one of the router's 4 ports to your laptop internet port, long enough to reach both units. The lone cable supplied from the router's pack is just about 1.5 meters. I also plan to set both computers wired but somehow satisfied naman ako sa signal between my router and laptop.

the speed booster "supposedly" increases speeds, however i believe it's not worth the extra cash. for normal surfing, browsing, downloading just get the wrt54g, with stable firmware. that's all you'll ever need (for now).
