The plot involves Kratos meddling with humans too much especially the people of Sparta, his hometown. The traditional flight/combat sim is an endangered species destined to be replaced by arcade-ish ones *sob*

Here's an ode to a bygone era with pics from Janes WW2 Fighters, MS Combat Flight Simulator 2, and Pacific Fighters:

Nice to see a fellow 'simmer. And WW2 at that.

I'm still hopeful that the Maddox and co. delivers on their much awaited Battle of Britain.

I'm also looking forward to Silent Hunter 4.

WW2 is my favorite simulation setting, preferably the Pacific Theater. It's my favorite because there's such a marked contrast in aircraft capabilities and tactics used between the Japanese and the Allies.

In the European and Mediterranean Theaters, aircraft are more evenly matched which is ok. In the Eastern Front, it's qualitative (Axis) vs quantitative (Russians) which is almost as fascinating as the Pacific Theater.

I need a new set of rudder pedals since my old CH pedals finally died.....

I forgot to add that I tend to play flight sims for a long time. WW2 Fighters date back from 1999. MS CFS2 dates back to 2000. I also have MS CFS3 (ETO). But, it isn't like CFS2 at all. I much prefer IL2/Forgotten Battles over CFS3. Between Pacific Fighters and MS CFS2..... I like the flight models of PF better. But, MS CFS2 seems to have captured the Pacific sea/ocean colors, clouds, and island terrain better which makes it more immersive to me.

I prefer the western European theater, especially the English Channel area. The sceneries are nice (good mix of water and land) and I love reliving the BF109E vs Spit MkII.

Of all the WW2 combat flight sims I have, I loved Microprose's EAW the most.
Followed closely by Rowans BoB (after all the bug fixes). Though IL2 is clearly superior to both, somehow for me, IL2 didn't have the "soul" that EAW and BoB had. (Also.. I suck so bad at IL2. Hehehehe... I got fixated at the easy flight model of EAW and BoB)

I don't have rudder pedals though... I have to make do with a twist rudder joystick (Wingman Strike Force).

I still have EAW here. Before EAW and 3d-acceleration, Microprose had 1942: Pacific Air War (1994). Although lo-res and no 3d-acceleration, it had textured-mapping which made it look pretty good. It had a decent flight model with a propensity to send the player into some nasty stalls. It also had a patch that made the AI some of the nastiest I've ever seen. Zeros were tenacious for getting on your six and if you're caught without energy to dive away like near sea level, you're a goner. I haven't seen any AI that good since except for human players.

That was probably the best flight sim I've ever played in any computer. Too bad Microprose isn't around anymore...

AFAIK, that's why you put a modchip there... It overrides any updates and authentications an unmodded ps3 might encounter. The internet access issue is yet another issue, although none of us in the Philippines will be able to create an account in the first place.

i just bought Ghost Recon 2 (GRAW 2) on Thursday last week for XBox360. here is my quick review about the game:

graphics: i don't see the difference from GRAW 1
storyline (mission campaign for 1 player only): GRAW 1's plot was more thrilling. and the missions in the first version were longer.
what's new in GRAW 2: there are two new air supports. a fighter jet and a "bird" (it looks like an OH-6A Cayuse), which replaced the Apache in GRAW 1. you can gain control of these two new air supports two times for only a brief moment in the mission mode. there is also a medic in GRAW 2; and 6-wheeler transport vehicle (can't think of the name). this vehicle replenishes your health and ammo anytime in the game.
this is a good game, but i still prefer GRAW 1 simply because the storyline in the mission campaign is more exciting TO ME and it takes a lot longer to complete than the missions in GRAW 2. it only took me six hours to complete the mission campaign in the hardest setting (the official review says 10 hours).

I would recommend GRAW 1 and Rainbow 6 Vegas Edition over GRAW 2.

my wish: I wish that there were SKIRMISH battles in the game. i am not talking about the scenario campaigns (for multiplayer). i am talking about skirmish battles similar to the ones in Command and Conquer and other RTS games where you can gain possession to all of the available arsenals in the game.

anybody wants to take this game off my hands for $40? i got these for more than $60 last week. i no longer want it.

Some of the firmware updates are essential for the BluRay and upcoming games. I updated my PS 3 to version 1.54.

The explantation, according to ps3-hacks.com, is that the ps3 modchip will act similar to the psp's platinum modchip, eliminating the need for firmware updates and game authentication when playing new games, EVEN when a higher firmware is needed to play... So, we won't hafta connect to the internet everytime we want to play a new game.
Now, another question is will they be able to mass produce this modchip for ps3 owners, and if so, will it even reach the Philippines?

Homeworld. Another favorite. It was a little disorienting at first. But, I never tire of it.

wonderful game. still can remember the final slide of the end credits showed a starmap with an arrow pointing at a small white dot saying something like "you are here". too bad philippine gamers largely ignored the game.

anybody here a fan of star control 2, dune 2, gabriel knight or the king's quest series?

I played Dune 2 when it first came out. I can't recall if it was late 1992 or 1993. But, it was the granddaddy of the Command & Conquer series. Right about the same time was Warcraft: Orcs vs Humans.

Star Control 2 I didn't really play until the 3DO version of 1994.

The King's Quest series I didn't really get into because it was often overshadowed by the Lucasarts adventure games. I did play KQ3: Perils of Rosella back in like what, 1988? 1989?

Some dedicated folks did a remake of KQ 1 and 2 in VGA. Check it out:
    http://www.agdinteractive.com/games.php

There's also a remake of the 3DO Star Control 2:
