    Here's a chart:

    Intel Processors

The Core 2 Duos have a faster bus speed and one large 4MB cache. The Pentium Duo Cores have a slower bus speed and 2 separate 2MB caches.

Pentium Dual Core = Pentium 4 D, Presler core
Core Duo = Yonah core, 32bit....mostly for mobility usage
Core2Duo = Merom core, comes in desktop (conroe) and server (woodcrest) flavors, 64bit architecture

According to this chart the Athlon 64 X2 processors have a maximum of 1x1MB on-board caches versus a Core 2 Duo's 2x2MB on-board caches. Ouch!

    from techreport

The new Pentium E2140 and Pentium E2160 may bear the old Pentium name, but they're Core 2 Duos at heart. In fact, they're based on the same Allendale core as the Core 2 Duo E4300, just with 1MB of shared L2 cache instead of 2MB.
