get the ip address of your router in your manual w/c is usually 192.168.1.1 log in as administrator by default is "admin" from there you can configure your security settings.
Try configuring the MAC address filtering, then only your wifi device will work with your linksys.
On the contrary to n4s, use WEP instead of WPA. though WPA is more powerful, im still comfortable with WEP.![]()
1. make sure to change the default "admin" router password.
2. disable wireless SSID broadcast
3. use a unique network name for your wireless setup
4. enable wireless MAC filter, you'd have to get individual MAC addresses of your wireless devices and enter the codes one by one for the filter to work. it's quite tideous, but it's a one time only endeavor
5. if your router and wireless devices can support WPA, use WPA. using WEP key decrypters, a wifi receiver and a bit of determination, bandwidth theives can easily steal WEP keys in as short as 15mins
6. change router passwords, network names and Wireless security keys at least twice a year. and check your MAC filter list for rouge add-ons every other month
Thanks, will try those...
sir anu ba yung MAC, WEP and WPA in layman's term?
papaano nga pala if I forgot the router password...will pushing the reset button put back the default?
MAC - Media Access Control - parang ID ng network enabled devices.
WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy/Protocol - basic wireless encryption protocol designed to thwart wifi eavesdroppers. think of this as a bouncer in front of your exclusive club. hindi sya magpapapasok ng kung sinuman na hindi nakakaalam ng passcode. however, the club itself has poor soundproofing, thus facilitating access to anyone who's willing enough to listen in.
WAP - Wi-Fi Protected Access - more advanced version of WEP. this time the bouncer asks for several passcodes and handshakes before letting you in. the club is also equipped with better soundproofing preventing eavesdroppers from listening in.
yup. back to admin.
maraming salamat sir...now it is much clearer.... will try the options stated later.
hindi kaya ikaw yung neighbor ni GH?![]()
